LB7

My parents own a '03 2500 2wd. The truck has over 180,000 miles on it. They said I could buy it if I wanted to. If not they are just going to trade it in. The truck has not been in the shop for anything. It doesn't smoke and still gets the same 20mpg that it always had. My brother in law is a diesel mechanic and told my parents to run transmission fluid in with the fuel ever couple of tanks. The injectors from what I know are the original injectors.

It's a good truck. I am just worried about the high miles. Should I keep looking or does it sound safe enough? The truck was mainly a daily driver but pulled a 5th wheel camper about a dozen times.

Wow, you don't normally see LB7 injectors going that long. I'd keep it but then again I'm a Dmax guy. The dodge guys are going to say get a Cummins.

The only thing I would be concerned with is it's only a matter of time for the injectors to go out. Maybe the ATF has made them last this long. I do know of a few with over 500k mile on them. The motors will last, injectors are another story.

Cummins are great. So are powerstrokes. I'm not a fan of the dmax.

BUT, depending how much they'd sell it to you for, I'd scoop it up. You KNOW your parents maintained it.. you KNOW it runs good, and gets 20mpg.. you KNOW they've never had ANY issues with it. Sounds like a solid truck to me.

But I'd be looking for a cummins swap... :P

Yeah my brother in law who is the diesel mechanic has a 06 Dodge with the cummins. If I could get one at a good price then I probably would. Like you said though, I know exactly what has been done with the tuck and how it was maintained. Plus knowing the fuel mileage.

KBB has it at around $10,000 for it so that is probably what I will be paying for it. Does this seem good. How many more miles would I realistically expect out of the truck before I have to do a engine rebuild? I plan on putting a PPE programmer in it and put it on the eco tune.

injectors would probably be the only thing I would worry about in the LB7

You know it has been taken care of well and has not had any problems. I'd go for it if you're wanting a Dmax.

I had a LB7, great engine! I had warranty on the injectors just for shits and giggles but GM wouldnt warranty them, on a bone stock truck they went without warning too..... Well it smoked a bit at idle a few times then for about 6 months ran fine, then one day running I-80 east towards reno up the hills my oil psi started dropping and fuel gauge too. I drained 2 gallons of fuel from the oil pan after getting it home, oil psi was 20psi at 2k rpm or so. Id buy it and get a set of reman injectors for 1400-1600 and put them in yourself if they go bad.
