My should be new truck within a week or so (also first diesel!)

Hey guys. Well i've been tryin to sell or trade my '98 Z28 LS1 camaro for a diesel. I've just always had a love for Cummins. The truck i am supposed to be trading for here soon is a '99 Ex cab short bed, 2wd auto 24 valve. It has 165,000 miles. The body looks great in the pics as does the interior and the guys swears it looks just as nice in person. Upgrades are: Edge comp box w/stealth plate, 90 horse injectors, 100 gph lift pump, BD cold air intake, 3" straight pipe to 6" echo tip, and a BD pillar mount monitor. I am in love w/the truck and can't wait to see it. What do you guys think so far based on the description?

Also guys sorry about posting this repeatedly. Didn't mean to, just now realized there was this potential owners section as im new to the forum all together. I deleted the info from the other two posts i had. That way all discussion can be here and mods an members hopefully don't get aggravated at the multiple posts. Sorry guys!

Well as long as this is what you want and the price is right then I say go for it. Just remember there's potential for problems with any used vehicle.

Yea but I am happy about the fact that the guy is makin the hour an a half (roughly) drive from his house to mine so i can see it. At least i know it'll make a little trip. As far as the ups on it, you guys like them?

Keep in mind, 24v's require money to do anything. The lift pumps are 2-3k dollars to replace, and they typically need air dogs and close fuel pressure monitoring. Then if it's an auto, save up about 5g's to have that rebuilt before you do any mods.

Sounds good to me.

With the Edge turned up it will probably get pretty toasty on a stock turbo. If you want more performance that would be your next step.

What brand of Lift pump did he install? It would be a good idea to check the fuel pressure on the truck before you pay for it. Though the BD monitor may display fuel pressure I don't know.

The only issue I see is the truck having an Edge and injectors on a stock auto trans. If it has been abused much you may have the possibility of rebuilding it before too long. I would inspect it carefully and make sure the fluid is nice and red and not dark or smelling burnt. If the seller is smart however, he probably would have just changed the fluid.

To do just a rebuild on a 47re your looking at around 1K for stock parts + labor. Depending on your performance goals the price to make the transmission live will go up from there.

The 47re may not be the greatest trans but it isn't as bad as some people think.

Well guys, i appreciate all the help and advice. But the deal fell through. He called and told me the tranny started slipping pretty bad, and he wouldn't have the money to have it rebuilt for a while. And of course i don't want it that way.

yeah that's probably a good thing though, if it would've held up long enough for you to get it in your hands it wouldn't have been to long before it started doing the same thing

yea i know. its just hard to find ppl with diesels to trade for my camaro.
