how good is a 6.5 chevy
i found a 94 6.5 im wondering how these trucks are id like to have a 4x4 and like havin a diesel only thing is id have to give up the cummins.
keep the cummins is my 2cents. I had a 94 and it was ok as a dd; but it just dont have the relability and get up and go as a cummins
Not very good at all. It was an engine made by Detroit Diesel when it was still owned by GM. Back then GM's focus for the diesel engine wasn't like it is nowadays. The 6.2 and 6.5 weren't ment to be powerhouse engines, they were made as fuel efficient alternatives to the gas engines. They were both poorly engineered IDI engines. A small block 350 would outdo them any day.
ok thats wat i needed to know
keep the cummins for sure... gm didnt get it right untill 2000
There not that bad. If you just want a daily driver that you pull lighter trailers with they work fine. The biggest problem in 94 was it was the first year for the ds4 pump and they had a whole lot of problems with them. By now all the original pumps are long gone. As far as comparing them to a 350 I never have had a 350 get as good fuel economy make as much power or require less maintenance than any 6.5 I have ever had. As far as selling your Cummins to buy one kind of depends on how bad you want the 4x4. They still used the 6.5 in 2000.
i want a 4x4 but if its not gonna be able to pull a sled then its not worth it to me.
If you are using it for a pulling truck I would stay with what you have. The only problem with the Cummins 4x4s is most people want a lot for them.
keep the cummins and keep your status to thats great and should be the law :c:
Or you could buy the 6.5 4x4 and throw the 12v in it! :rocking:

Defiantly keep the Cummins. But as far as 6.5's reliability I worked at Caltrans (State Road maintenance) They had six 6.5s most of them had over 300k on them and they still had lots get up and go left. Thats good considering everyone there drove all on the equipment like they stole it.:c:

i think im gonna stick with the cummins as much as i want a 4x4 idk if i want to go back to a half ton wich is what i had found.

6.5 are not bad at all but a cummins is a better engine |
my opinion as someone whos father has had every diesel chevy there is and current 95 dodge owner , is that the cummins may be a better motor but chevy is a better overall package.this probly does not help but both trucks have their advantages.:tu:
