Looking to Buy a Diesel

Hey guys I've never owned a diesel however I've drove several. In the summers of 04, 05 and 06 I worked for a construction company running heavy equipment. I drove a company truck which was a 97 F350 with a 7.3L and pulled a 20'+4' gooseneck. Ever since then I've wanted to own a diesel of my own however I'm still stuck with a gas truck. I know what truck I want to buy the problem is finding one since I'm so picky.

I want a 2006 Dodge 2500 with the 5.9L, 6 Speed, 4x4, Mega Cab and am picky about the colors and options as well. So I haven't had much luck finding a truck that fits this that I can easly afford anyway.

I know this is the truck I want however I was wondering if anyone knows if there are any downfalls or problems with this truck. Also I have found a couple trucks that I liked both were 06's but one had 108xxx and the other had 124xxx miles on them. I know most people buy these trucks to pull with but I was wondering how worried I should be with this many miles on a truck thats only 4 years old. (I know a diesel with go a million miles however they can also have the guts pulled out of them)

Hmmm... hard to say:humm: If they were not properly broke in you might have problems down the road. millage should not be to much of a factor. if it is a rig from the dealer it is hard to tell how they were cared for. if your looking from a owner You have a better chance of knowing the care. However; They might have not broke it in from new! I Was taught when you get a new Diesel Truck you drive it like you stole it! My advice is for your first either buy new or find your truck preowned from Fleet duty. They night have hard miles put on them but their cheaper and broke in properly. plus you can find the interior from a salvage yard or buy new, and paint it whatever color you like. plenty of room for your personal touch and Ideas on a custom truck tailored to you.

Thanks Rustin thats good advice on the fleet vehicle and I would do that. However I have already decided that this truck will be exactly what I want and I've never seen a fleet vehicle that fits.

Your worried about 108k miles? Ya I have 300k miles on my modded 12v cummins and ran it outta oil twice. 108k is still stock tire territory (kidding). If you are ultra picky, you'll never find the truck you want. And when you do find it, they are gonna be asking a ton. The common rail motors are beasts. A tuner will give you 500hp and 1000+lbs of torque and 26+/- mpg highway. You WONT find a cheap diesel that fits your requirements in Missouri. Drop your requirements, drop the years, configuration, trans options etc to broaden your search.

Ya I wouldn't worry about 108k unless the truck has been severely abused.

You need to quit talking about how you ran your truck out of oil you know some one is going to give you crap about it.

Ya I deserve to be given crap about it. That was pretty f*cking stupid of me. BUT it goes to show that these motors are tough. I was consistantly like a gallon or so low on oil in the several thousand miles I've put on it. They are tough.

when they are low you can put oil in them. that's what the filler caps for.

come on who runs there truck out of oil ....................... :w2: just kidding but had to do it
on a side note good luck with the search

i wouldnt worry about the miles. git in er and go. it will be hard to find what your lookin for but take my advice dont settle for somethin get exactly what you want. my 99 isnt exactly what i want and it bothers the hell out of me. i love the truck just not exactly what i want. good luck findin one buddy. try finding someone in your area that deals in wrecked trucks. thats how im getin my next one either find someone to fix it or fix it yourself that way you can def. make it the way you want it
