I don't post here much but my best advice is this....If you are buying a diesel because you need one, get it. If you are buying a diesel because you want one, get it. But if you are buying it to daily drive because you hear so many claims of great mileage with hopes of saving money, don't get it. Anything that breaks on any diesel is going to cost 5 times as much as a similar gasser part. Regular maintanence is twice as much. And the mileage isn't that great. It can be great considering what the truck weighs, but not great just in general. That's my $.02

Ok I am brand NEW to this sight and never owned a Diesel Truck (I have tractors but thats completely different). I am looking at buying a 2004 F350 6.0 I just want to know if anyone can give me insight on this deal. I have read quite a bit on this sight and just havent found the answer I am looking for. Yet if it is posted somewhere else then I apologize in advance. THANKS for any help given.

Truck details- F-350 crew cab, king Ranch, long wheel base, 6.0, 213K miles, truck is in great shape

Work being performed right now before I purchase the truck- New High pressure oil pump, New oil Cooler, New Bullet Proof brand EGR cooler, New sway bar bushings, Injectors tested, A few other components when getting to the oil pump, Rebuild on the turbo.

The Kelly Blue Book is $18,990 I am giving $13,100 Just wanting some input before I finalize this deal and would LOVE some insight from all that is willing to give it.

I've had many diesels starting with the 6.2 GM Diesel in '82 If you want balance of power and mileage buy any newer than '93 US Mfg. in a light truck or skip to a German car.
Big Power for heavy towing the 8.3 Cummins works well for consistent 40,000lbs car haulers and motor homes. (The CAT shakes like a cement mixer)

German cars (Six Cyl.) are well refined as high speed diesels, MBR320CDI is a great AWD wagon and E320CDI is a 4 door with 400ft lbs. and always gets 38MPG, frumpy but makes you smile when you stomp the go peddle at 40+.
The VW is a great car, great financing and the new Passat pulls like a freight train and really gets 55MPG. however they don't hold up in the heat as they age. A 5 year old BMW Diesel pulls like an LS3 to 100MPH, and at 28K a good but a homely 4 dr choice.

As for going backward, forget the first gen VW Diesels, I picked up a Rabbit diesel, squeeked out 45 MPG at 55MPH, and the dash vibrated like a consistent blur, forget highway speed with the 1600TD.
