Potential Duramax Owner

Hi Everyone!

I'm thinking about making the plunge into becoming a 1st time Diesel owner. I've done some research on Duramax trucks, and am thinking that's what I am going to go for. This truck would be a daily driver, but would also get used for hauling my horse trailer around as well. My daily commute is 10 miles each way, mainly back roads with some in town driving. I've hauled a couple times with friends Duramax trucks and love the amount of power they put out. What years are considered the "good" years? I'm leaning towards a used Duramax in the year/s between 2001-2006. Pro's/cons to a Duramax? Any winter starting/maintenance tips? Where I live it can easily get -20F with windchill. I'm aware that the costs of owning a diesel is much higher, but over the lifetime of the truck can be the same costs as a gasser and last a lot longer (and pull more).

Thanks!

The best years are 2006 and up. I wouldn't buy anything under 2006 because they have injector and head problems. If they can prove that the injectors are within rates then you could go for it. new injectors are around $400 a piece so it gets expensive. I have an 06 duramax with 420000kms and it runs great and doesn't smoke a drop of oil.
