I want a 08 6.4......Whats the story..?

Ive been researching the 6.4 and don't really like what I'm seeing. A big dissapointment since I need a diesel and IMO nothing comes close to the superduty look.

I can't settle for a GM/Chevy, I've tried talking my self into it... It's even worked....until I catch a PSD on the road, then Im back to square one.

I've never been one to shy away from a vehicle for lack of reliability but the PSD is intimidating. Im a good mechanic but I will not be able to pull the cab. Its seems like this engine likes to eat itself any chance it gets.

DPF, EGR, HG issues aside I still hear about turbo and injector problems, WTF Ford??

I'm stuck on the 08+ look. Budget won't allow for a 6.7. Looking to spend between 25 and 33 ish. What do you guys think? I would appreciate objective information only. Ive had enough of brand loyal tools wasting my time with propaganda.

Thanks in advance, Pete

The 6.4 is worlds more reliable than the 6.0 it replaced. However if you do have issues, typically parts are far more expensive (fuel system wise). Really the only thing that seems to destroy the fuels systems if poor fuel quality. Injection pumps get rusty and fall apart, but it's not anywhere near as common as one might think. Sure you can read about it on the forums, but bear in mind that most of the guys posting on the forums are the one's with problems. No one is coming on the forums and telling us how they've had no problems ever. I would try and find a low mileage one, stay away from job 1 trucks if you can and delete the DPF ASAP. It seems the trucks with higher miles (100k +) and the DPF still in place, have serious fuel/oil dilution issues. Everything else about the truck is really good. The driveline has proven itself, the 5R110 is an excellent transmission (provided you get good custom tuning) and the bottom end of the motor has spun up over 1000 RWHP without issues.

Find a good clean one, do the deletes, run it!
