i know some of the early Ford Rangers came with diesels, 2 different motors, the newer was a Mitsu motor the older a Perkins i think? i'd like to see a Pinto with the turbo Mitsu motor installed in it, should get great mileage like the old V-Dub Rabbits....

We have a little Isuzu Pup with a 2.2 diesel in it. Pretty neat little engine. Look on ebay, Ive seen some Puguet's, Jeep Cherokees with I believe Renault diesels in them, Mercedes, and a BMW now and then. If you want something modern 01+ there is a company that sells Japanese takeout engines so you can make any stateside jap wagon into a factory diesel. We are going to do that soon if we can get our hands on a cheap donor car.:choochoo:

How Mitsubishi Diesels Got Into 1978 Dodge Rams

Go down to where it says post script and you can read about a 1978 Factory option of a Mitsubishi engine. This was the first 'factory' diesel in a dodge pickup.

my uncle had a 79 oldsmobile toronado with a factory diesel engine. it was basically chevy's 350 converted to diesel. it ran good, not sure what ever happened to it. i was prolly 10 when he got rid of it. n its the only one i've ever seen

I'm surprised to read "it ran" They didn't run long in trucks.

The Olds 5.7 was NOT a Chevy gas converted into a Diesel. They had trouble with head bolts and the factory repaired them re-using the head bolts that quickly failed again. Many drag racers used the ex-tra stout Olds block and built them into gassers.

yeah im thinking that it might be cool to buy an old diesel caddilac and make it a fun commuter.Id probly have to through a turbo on it just to get the engine the air to breath when I go up in the mountains. My dad had a k10 with the 5.7 olds.He said when he went camping in tahoe the thing wouldnt idle without pooring smoke.:jump:
