The Kia Soul..... Diesel!?!

Not sure if anyone posted about this...

My wife LOVES this little car. I have to say its not too bad IMHO either. Blah blah Kia = Money sent over seas... Yeah well by the end of this year there will be a 239K sq ft factory in Georgia to give americans jobs. And god knows we need that!

ANYWAY...

So i am at the Mits/Kia dealership here in town and we were checking out the Soul... Turns out there are quite a few on the lot BUT one very interesting one inside. It is a Korean/European version that has a Diesel engine!! :choochoo:

This display Soul packs a 128hp 1.6L CRDi turbo diesel engine.

They say they have no plans to bring it to the states and they CANT sell that Soul because it doesn't meet US emissions requirements!

What a crock.

Here is a tiny article on it...

Amen, but the US makes it expensive for companies to release diesel it seems. As for the salesman... He wanted to know WHY i wanted the diesel INSTEAD of the gas version... :loco:

If it's not legal for import how can it be purchased in the US?My wife also likes them so that's why I ask.

I have a Tracer Wagon, nearly the same as escort wagon. The guys over on the FEOA claim that a lot of the Kia gassers use the same engine and transmission that's in my Tracer. It has a 1.9L Mazda engine and I am not sure what the auto trans is.I assume it's Mazda as well.(Yes,I know what they say about assuming.)That car has had three trans and hasn't made it to 130,000 miles yet.I just pushed it out of the way and ignore it for now.

do not underestimate kia these days, kia and hyundai had less faults per 100 vehicles sold in South africa than Toyota, and toyota are supposed to be the reliable ones, i think hyundai came 3rd overall and bmw in 2nd, cant remember 1st place

also their 2.0 CRDI motor is excellent, runs smooth and has loads of power. very impressed with their stuff
