Converting 2wd to 4wd?

How hard is it to convert a 96 2500 Sierra that is 2wd to 4wd? I remember seeing something on tv that bolts to the transmission in place of the tailpiece that acts as a transfer case, but i cant find it. Other than that is it just as simple as bolting on a new front end or is it more complicated?

Front end, transfer case, driveshaft. Thats my guess.

on a chevy is is harder unless you are converting to a solid front axle. then u can buy the kit from ORU and bolt it in sorta.....

most of the time is cheaper to just get another truck.but to change 2wd to 4x4 your gonna need new tranny,t case, new front end, driveshaft & a couple of wires for the mother pump not trying to talk you out of it but unless you have an extra truck to drive while you do the change youd probaly be better off just buying a 4x4

Just depends on how much you like your current truck :tu:

I've converted three trucks from 2 to 4 whl drive and it's not that hard. A donor truck, Welding skills, torch and grade 8 bolts. On the two older chevy's I did it also required a small section of the floor pan above the transfer case removed and I cut a little larger piece from the donor truck and bolted it in as a removable cover over the transfer case.
Contrary to many stories you hear it is not a bolt on job although on the chevy's there were a lot of common holes between the two frames. If you have above average skills with metal, I say go for it.:tu:
