Limited Slip/Locker

Ok, so I'm tired of being embarassed by the "one legger" or to people who don't know what that is, it's havin the power to do a burnout but only one wheel will spin. Seems like I heard of someone who sales a rearend that's like a limited slip but then you can also flip a switch and completely lock the rear, like a best of both worlds kind of thing. Anybody know what I'm talkin about or can point me in the direction of someone who would? Thanks in advance.

ARB Air Locker, or pony up for Power Wagon electric locker set up.

Um, I've got a 2001 so I don't know if the Power Wagon setup will work or not. Does ARB offer what I'm wantin?

Yes. A little spendy but you have an open diff, and then when you push a button, you have a fully locked diff. Great setup plus, with a little extra work, you can have an on board air system that is also comes in handy.

Does ARB make anything that works as a limited slip when it's not locked in?

Jolleyman 12-18-2009 12:55 PM

Nope. The ARB is either fully locked or open and you have to push the button to engage it. There are plenty of LSD or auto locker options out there too, but there are pros/cons to any setup, even the ARB.

It sounds too me like you have a locker and a spool confused A locker will supply equal power too each wheel under hard acceleration and strait runs, but it will act like a open diff while turning vs the tire squealing you will experience while running a spool which locks both axles togeather at all times. If you go with a locker I personally would recomend either an EATON, or a DETROIT LOCKER. ARB is more for rock crawlers so the can turn it on and off as needed.

I'm not 100% sure who makes it but there is/was an electric locker that acted like a limited slip when dissengaged, and fully locked when engaged. I think it is made by the same company that makes the detroit. I have head alot of really good things about the the truetrac differential, which is a hellical gear type unit that is supposed to be very effective.

If they make a truetrac for your truck, that would be the best route to take. Progressive, seamless torque application. If one wheel has zero friction, it will not lock the other. Cure- pull the parking brake a click or two.

They come stock in performance Mazda's, later SRT4's, and also in the Honda S2000. I can be teetering on 2 wheels going up a driveway and still crawl right up it using the parking brake. They also never wear out like clutch pack limited slips do.

i would have to say an air locker
