Longhorn 04-18-2008 10:18 PM

Oh man, I would RULE the pipeline with one of those....

Doc, lets go get one....I'll take ya for a ride!

Dr. Evil 04-18-2008 10:20 PM

Would be a good back country camping vehicle.

When I worked for Norjet Geotechnologies back in the 90's they shut down their operations in Cuba and shipped a Kamaz back to Edmonton. Of course, it wasnt this race truck but it was still damn cool.

Was more like this one:

Longhorn 04-18-2008 10:41 PM

Hell, Im buying one....They are over 700HP with 16 speed trannys.

I just emailed them and asked for a quote shipped to Canada...see what they say. This model is outfitted the same as the rally trucks...I need one bad!

The more I read, the more I want one...

KAMAZ RACING TRUCK IS THE WINNER OF THE PARIS-DAKAR RALLY
Dmitry Shorkov
The racing truck of the KAMAZ family has brought a victory in a team count to the Russian crews of Vladimir Chagin and Firdaus Kabirov at the 25th anniversary Paris-Dakar marathon rally. Besides, Vladimir Chagin, has scored a victory in the individual count.
The racing KAMAZ-4911 is a double- axis all-terrain vehicle, weighing 11 tons, with an all-metal canopy body. It is equipped with the Russian-made 8-cylinder multi-valve turbo-diesel with a capacity of 730 horse power. In combination with the 16-step gear-box, which makes a single bloc with the transfer gear-box, it can gather
speed of up to 170 kilometers per hour. The power-generating set is installed over the fore axis.
15-leaf springs at the front of the racing KAMAZ and 10-leaf springs behind it serve as a suspension. Besides, each wheel is supported by 2 hydro-pneumatic racks with the built-in shock-absorbers. With such a suspension, a truck, after jumping from a spring-board, can land with all its mass on one wheel, without breaking a suspension. The 20-inch aluminum wheels have huge tubeless tyres of variable pressure. The design of the wheel is such that a tyre can be easily replaced without taking the wheel off the hub. Trucks have drum brakes with separate pneumatic front and back drives.
The three-seat cabin of a racing truck in exterior resembles very much the cabin of a mass-production truck. But it only looks like it. It has a reinforcing safety frame. Special seats are custom-made and adjusted to crew members. Broad safety belts press racers against their seats as if they were piloting a warplane. The
distinctive feature of a racing truck is a steering-wheel shaft with hinges. Therefore, a steering wheel is situated in front of the driver like in a car. The cabin is equipped with navigation devices. 6 additional powerful head-lights are fixed on a strong frame on the outside of the cabin.
Racing trucks can easily climb 61 per cent slopes, a vertical wall 50 centimeters high and a ford of more than 150 centimeters deep. 2 fuel tanks, with a capacity of 450 liters each, enable a truck to cover a distance of up to 1, 000 kilometers long, which is quite enough for the Paris-Dakar rally.
A marathon KAMAZ is a miracle truck that is made this way so that it can outdo the Czech-made "Tatras" and the Dutch-made "Dafs", which are its formidable rivals.

16 speed 730hp?!?!?! that may be the most amazing rally truck I've ever seen. ever. period.
I'm not scared to run the Baja 1000 in one...there's no way that thing'd fit or get stuck in the mexicans' traps! I am scared, however, to pay for one...

DangerousDuramax 04-19-2008 10:40 AM

THAT...is just an AWESOME figgin ride. :up2:

dozerboy 04-19-2008 01:34 PM

Only if they where available here....

TCU Fan 04-19-2008 01:56 PM

That looks pretty fun, see them passing the motorcycles like they were just sitting there?

Longhorn 04-19-2008 02:14 PM

Ok, they will ship to the US but the price tag is a little spendy. They emailed me this morning regarding a price quote:

Hi Brad,
The 4911 is acustom built FIA rally T3 truck which is also sold to special forces units, hence they star from $275K and are not Emissions or safety cert for US or Canada. I would suggest either Ural 4320 Scania or Sisu all are on my web prices for good condition, low mileage including est shipping cost to Eastern Canada $32K

Regards
Sean

$32k for shipping to Canada...WOW!

I dont think I can swing that kind of money...oh but if I had it I would have one by the weekend!!

DBogo 04-19-2008 11:06 PM

thats the vehicle and shipping to canada, not too bad for what your getting

Wyatt Earp 04-19-2008 11:16 PM

Guys this is what happens when you drink too much Wadka and consider getting a 12T truck to move at 85 MPH! They are really slick but perhaps not the right the thing for the morning Edmonton commute?

Dr. Evil 04-20-2008 12:47 PM

Well if I had that kind of money, I wouldnt have to commute...

Yeah, a little on the steep side.

If you really want a Kamaz and have the cash they build customs - since the 4911 is all custom anyway. So you can swap out the Russian diesel and go with Cummins. Cummins is not better but it is emissions certified in Canada and the USA. You can also get a 1984 frame with title for them to do the build with. That means you are importing a 25yo vehicle and that gets you out of US DOT and EPA requirements. Now all that said, unless you actually do run the Baja, there is nothing in USA or Canada that needs a Kamaz. It can all be done with a DAF, Unimog, Mann, or others that have used frames available for less than 25% of what a Kamaz will set you back. Lastly, the Kamaz is not the best Expedition RV design. See the intakes and exhaust location behind the cab. That is consuming valuable space for the RV, bikes or spares (you need 2 if you are really going where this truck is needed and doing it without a support vehicle - which the Russian Dakar teams always had - a 6x6). Man, Volvo and Unimog all make a better RV base. Kamaz is the standout for speed, flex, and all that, like a Ferrari 4x4 truck. If I was picking, I'd go Man, Daf or Volvo because they can run and carry. Unimog is too slow. Kamaz is too much a rabbit.

TD52 04-26-2010 09:01 AM

it looks like a garbage truck on steroids .. lol
well it does go places like the unimog

Mike H 06-18-2010 05:20 PM

that truck is awesome,i really like the 4x4 cabover look.do any american companies compete in this race?:tu:

Deezel Stink3r 06-19-2010 03:20 PM

Forget the Kamaz- Mog is history

welcome the Zetros:

Got that thing for troop testing- and it has the right to be called "thing"

beerbellykelly 09-08-2010 04:27 PM

im lucky enough to be a regular at IDEX and DVD expo,s-the tatra,s have had it there own way too long-the finnish SISU is very capable-but 730 cossack horses seem to woo you away from any of the other kit out there.:jump:
the GIBSON technologies amphibious quad was an impressive vehicle too.
