Egr Block off 300sd 617

I have an 84 300sd i'm looking to block off the egr and for a way to get over 10 psi of boost maybe even put on a low cost inner cooler just any ideas that will make it burn rubber :tu::rocking:

More boost won't help unless you put in larger pump elements and injectors, it only has fuel for 12psi stock.
Easiest way to block off the EGR is with a 1/8" steel plate the shape of the gasket minus the hole in the middle sandwiched between two gaskets on the intake side. Other option is a pair of plates of 1/4" steel, one on the exhaust, the other on the intake.

The pump on this is very similar to a cummins p pump. There is a full fuel screw and a couple others. I found on peachparts that you can adjust for more fuel. I also read that these can hold 25-30 psi stock. the plate would work on the intake but not the exhaust

No it won't. The engine can produce 145hp with about three hours of work and basic tools.

15psi if the pump is adjusted.

Or cut up a coke can.

For a few seconds until you blow the 25 year old headgasket.

Alright thanks for the help:tu:

egr plate, first gear start

The attached images show how to block off the egr and block off the entire system which will help.

If you want to burn rubber the FIRST thing you need to do is start the car in 1st gear!!
You'll need to get a "fgs" first gear start module. If you can believe it, these cars all start in 2nd gear! It was an emissions tactic to get rid of that puff of smoke when the car starts rolling. Look it up on google. The european cars use module 0025454132 which can be easily wired into the american cars.

I don't believe it because its false information. The transmission sits in 2nd at a stop to reduce the brake effort needed to keep the vehicle stationary. It immediately shifts to 1st when you press the accelerator.

The car shifts nice but in D i do believe it starts in 2nd because when i put the shifter to the 2nd gear position and mash the petal. It takes off alot better.

1st gear start

Yes starting in 2nd is a weird thing with these cars.

If you stamp the pedal all the way to the kickdown switch they will kick down to first fairly quickly. Otherwise they stay in 2nd all the way to 7mph by spec.

Supposedly it gets rid of that puff of black smoke diesels have when you start moving.

Anyway there are pages of chatter on this subject and several electronic modules to circumvent the issue if you really intend to race around. The non-U.S. version had a module that you can wire into U.S. cars -- part # 0025454132.

This is a good thread:

Nope. They shift to 1st immediately upon any throttle application. Kickdown only has effect in 4th gear below 55mph.

That is also wrong. Lugging the engine longer at low RPM means more smoke. The quicker you get the engine into its 2400rpm torque peak the lower the emissions will be.

Only for 1996+ models. 1995- 4-speed models are mechanical and have no possible electronics to connect with. If you want to alter shift characteristics you have only the modulator (shift firmness) and bowden cable (shift timing) that can be adjusted. Anything else requires dropping the valvebody and changing springs.
The only electrical component on the transmission is the kickdown system, which is just a simple single wire solenoid operated by a momentary push button switch under the throttle that is connected to an ignition switched power source at the fuse box. The speedometer pickup (on SD models) and NSS have no interaction with transmission performance.
