Question

75HP motor on a 14' Boat possible or BS?

Marine 09-27-2007 05:47 PM

It is possible, but the boat is probably not rated for it. Of course, it depends on the boat, but I would bet it is above the boat rating.

Like marine says, possible, but not recommended. However there are certain mini speed boat setups were it could be used, they were real popular in the late 80's, small 2 seater glass boat with midsize outboards.

Heard a "story" today where a guy said he had a 75HP motor on a 14' Boat and was all the time racing larger boats on the lake , I just shook my head OK sure Buddy :) When i was really thinking it would sink with that large of a motor ...... just courious

well yeah....... i have a 90 v4 evinrude on a 12' speed boat. looks like a small bass boat.

i'll see if i can get some pics for yah

Not impossible, if the boat is rated for it.

Most smaller speed boats can handle it, the fast moving fishing boats can do it, and the aluminum river sleds, also.

Just depends on the type of boat. However, people have been known to do stupid things, and setting a too-big O/B on a too-small boat just scratches the surface.

he he, i set a 75 tuhatsu that i bored ot and rebuilt. ont a 16' boat. that was definetly not made for the outboard. we mounted 2 seats way far up in the bow to off set the weight of the engine. cuz the stern almost went under on us the 1st time we tried to set it over with 1 person.
i got 2nd place in the races. i got beat by a guy with as 20' aluminum with a 150 yamaha

the old hydro-steams or whatever they're called came with that size of a motor. i think they'd go up to 100 horse IIRC.

fast and scary....the cool kind of scary.
