Idle adjust
 

I have a one-cylinder Farymann boat engine. There is a problem with the idle. If I slow it down, it quits. To keep it going, I have to keep the revs a lot higher than normal for idle. I have not gone into the throttle/high pressure pump area but might if someone can give me a clue what to do when I get there.

alright first off welcome to the site, secondly one of the mods should move this to the boat section it might get some more hits there, but what i would do is go to the throttle area and find the lever, and when its at the idle position it should be resting on some sort of bolt, take that bolt and crank it either inward or outward what ever way puts more pressure on the throttle lever, then it will allow it to idle higher, hopefully that all makes sence

I have the solution to this ! I had the same problem and after many test I won ! You have to ajust the gap between the governor pin and the the throtlle lever. This is located in the crank case but it's very easy to do. Remove the front pulley and open the front access. The little ajustement is just there in the crank case. There a screw with a lock nut. Unlock it (like a valve ajustement) and try one turn clockwise firts and lock it. Try your engine, it will run with a steady idle. You make anothere turn clockwise if the ajustement is very loose.
