DPF delete? need info
my boss drives an '08 LMM and we have resorted to taking my truck to jobs instead of his b/c i get 20 mpg while he gets 12 mpg and if we take his truck everywhere we spend around $300 per week in fuel where mine is less than $200.. LoL. Anyways, i have him talked into a DPF delete if i can give him all the info he wants on how to get it done. Can y'all tell me everything i need to do to his truck to delete the DPF without setting codes and stuff? Thanks guys

well the only tuner i know of right now that will do it is EFI live then you will need a delete pipe from MBRP oh and be carefull on I-35 DPS and local cops are watching it more and more i am not sure what county you are in but i know a few that are doing emissions testing
|
If he is only getting 12 MPG there is a problem. I get 13.8 with mine and mine but there is a reason for that.
I would not do a delete until I had the truck looked at. I have read reviews of people getting up to 24 (but that no doubt is exaggerated). |
jdugie123, i remember watching that burnout at the dyno day btw. that was a pretty good one. haha. i noticed that around SA the cops are getting worse, but haven't noticed too many closer to buda and kyle lately. thanks for the heads up tho. oh yeah, watch out for cops on 967 right outside of Buda if your around there. i played with one of the guys from ART in their black dodge and got pulled over. he said he never woulda seen anything if it weren't for not being able to see the road from the black smoke.
back on topic, Would a cracked DPF or damaged DPF cause this bad mileage thing? b/c i noticed the other day when he revved it up at me it blew some smoke. he has a bully dog tuner on it right now, but it still shouldn't smoke since it still has the DPF on it. i will tell him to take it in, but i'm hoping we can get his truck to get closer to the 20's because my truck gets 20 which is why we have been using it more often at work than his truck. ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Ok, i talked to keith(my boss) and he said he is getting 12.9.. the people at the stealership told him to just reset the little mileage calculator everytime he fills it up!! his miles til empty thing drops 2 miles every mile if you go by the mile markers on the interstate.. every mile marker the computer will drop off 2 miles almost everytime. i find this weird, but even calculating by hand by the odometer reading he gets around 12.9-13.0, but less than 10 with the trailers that we pull. The trailers arent very heavy, but sometimes we are loaded with a CAT skid steer and stuff. Do y'all think the DPF could be messed up? if so would it get much better mileage by deleting the DPF like the new cummins trucks do? Thanks guys |
how old is the truck. is it broken in. by the way how long has he had the bully dog tuner on because from all the smoke it causes he could of clogged the DPF and that would explain the bad mileage.
|
its an 08. i will talk to him bout the miles and how long it has had the tuner on it, but he can rev it and it blows a good bit of smoke.. cool i think, but not good since the truck still has the DPF. i told him to take it in, but i don't know when he will take it in. it is most likely broken in though. like i said, we use 300 bucks in diesel per week in it. so in a weeks time it gets quite a few miles put on it..

i just made some flanges to bolt up to the stock exhaust and bolted it in it only takes 15 minutes to bolt the dpf back in ive got quads programer , it might need to regen see if theres a manual regen on the programer hes got and manual regen even thought idosent say its stoped up it could be fooling the comp
|
i will check that out. i will see him tomorrow so i will look at everything and let y'all know what i find..

that is a pretty cool deal!!! i will tell him about it when he gets back in town on friday, but i think he is going to be worried about it passing inspection b/c then he won't be able to put the DPF on in order to get inspected.. i would like to see him get that though.
the tuner he currently has does not have a manual regen on it and the guys at the dealership told him to drive 60mph or faster for an extended time.. think about that is for the past month he has been driving it back and forth to Del Rio from here which is a really long drive and the speed limit on 10 is 80mph so he drove 80mph for about 30 minutes maybe so the DPF should have been cleaned out!! so it looks like we are going to have to do something with the DPF sooner or later anyways b/c the dealer isn't participating right now. |
We can get just the delete pipe too, let me know.

does the delete pipe simply bolt in? if so that's most likely a route he would be willing to go in. i will talk to him about the stealth and a delete pipe. he wants to be able to easily take out the delete pipe and put the DPF back on just in case he ever has to do so.

I would like to know some of this information also. I am looking at probably getting rid of the DPF. What is it i will all need. I have the PPE hot + race so i know i am good with the programmer. Do i need a delete pipe is all? Or is the the back exhaust what I need. Been reading for awhile and can't seem to figure it all out. Newbe used to be a gasser. Still learning from everyone. So what is the best way to DPF delete?

DPF only Delete pipe(but leaves the DOC in place so you don't get the full benefit), both about the same cost... |
I got the DPF delete on my tuner ordered it that way. So if I was to get the MBRP 4" turbo back from you for an 08 GMC LMM, thats all i would need??
|
we did the ppe xcellerator hot+2 ..and a 4in turbo back exhaust on our 08 sierra
and we didnt really notice a bump im mpg. ..prolly wouldnt have spent the money now |
My friend has an 07.5 LMM with a ppe tuner and a 4" exhaust but today we took the exhaust and the ppe tuner off becasue he has to take the truck to the dealer after we finished i turned the truck on and the cel came one i scaned the code and it said p0546(exhaust gas temperature sensor circuit high) i tried to erease the code but no luck has this happend to any one??
