2001 LB7 Duramax
I just got a 2001 LB7 Duramax and am looking to make it faster. I'd like to make it run in the 14 second range in the 1/4. What exactly do i need to do and is possible to do this with stock parts and not burning things up. I've looked at programmers but seen anything over 100 hp needs tranny work done. Give me a your opinions. I'd like to have a nice daily driver still without the worry of parts failing.

Congrats on your purchase. Moved to the proper spot, cause your no longer a potential owner. :tu:

$2000 -$2500 looks like 15 second truck is more realistic without a bunch of upgrades looking through posts from others.

Not sure if you can reach your goal with a smaller budget. Def get a tuner, and if i was budgeted that strict, i would get one that has the ability to give you readings such as pyro, boost, trans temp, etc.
AT LEAST a shift kit. I am sure guys on here can tell you the bare minimum trans work that will safely handle enough power to reach your goals. I know transgo shift kit will prolly help ya out some. Boost valve would a cheap but beneficial upgrade as well. Help me out guys, i cnat be the only one that is willing to give him some advice |
congrats on the purchase!!!
the boost valve is gonna be your best bang for the buck. best $30 you'l ever spend on it! something to consider/ i have an LB7 edge juice with additude with the most recent flash, tryin to sell becuase i just made to move to EFI-Live, if your interested i will make you and awesome deal on it! its got all the ability for all your readings as stated above shoot me a pm if ya got any interest!! |

Lift pump, built tranny, and a GOOD EFI tune will get you low 13's, maybe 12's my friend.
Get yourself a good set of gauges, and a PPE or Quad S2. That'll get you 14's |

yes, best case scenario, you get efi, trans, and lift pump. no need to go throwing numbers out in public, but you can pm me and i will tell you what i have in my truck considering it is just being finished up this week. but as crazy crew said, get a good tuner, and some gauges. and you will be moving closer to your goal if not meeting it. |

the shift kit for the 5 speed isnt worth it. a good tune and boost valve is just about all you should need. i had two of my friends running in the high 13's in the 1/4 with tuning on a stock trans.

Just turn off the OD when you push it hard or let up when it starts to shift into OD that is the only time I ever limp the tranny in mine.
