Best Exhaust?
i have LB7 duramax... and i was looking at a 4in turbo back MBRP installer series exhaust system..
would this be a good choice? |
just about any 4 inch would be best. I didnt have a problem with the MBRP when installing it.
What size cab/bed is your truck |
i have a ext cab short box.
and when i looked on the mbrp website it said its a "down pipe back" system?? is that good |
x2 on the MBRP.. I have one on my LBZ, and I love it.. awesome quality, and it was easier to put the new exhaust in that it was to take the old one off.. I would reccommend the MBRP, but I dont have any expierence with any other exhausts, so there may be a better system..

Its a down pipe back system (referred to turbo back by most people) because there is only one company that i know of that makes a replacement down pipe but its huge and its really only for if your making well over 500hp at the wheels.
The downpipe back system replaces the whole system up the to turbo downpipe right at the flange. The lly's and lbz's have a down pipe replacement made by diamond eye but they don't make them for lb7's. It is not necessarily needed the system you are looking at is good. Since u have an extended cab and lookin at a mbrp system, u will have to cut nine inches off of one pipe since it was made for a crew cab. And you would have a 18 inch pipe laying around since it would be for if you were to have a long bed. atleast that was the wait it was for my 5 inch exhaust from MBRP:humm: |
3 Attachment(s)
I had the MBRP duals and loved them. I also had the magna flow "flow pro" it was a nice system also but man was it loud. I ended up putting a 24" muffler on it to tone it down before I took it out for the MBRP.
If I were you, I would take it somewhere and have the tip welded on, get the tip that does not bolt on, rather welds on. This is my LLY but I had the same set up on my LB7 and it looked exact. Attachment 56732 Here is the MBRP and the Pro Flow on top and another picture of the welded MBRP on bottom. Attachment 56733 Attachment 56734 |

Thats good to know, i guess they don't have much options when it come to a 5 inch exhaust
|
MBRP does make a down-pipe kit for an extended cab short box. No cutting required just bolt it on. Magnaflow does not however, theirs is only for a crew cab short box. With Magnaflow you will need to take 8 or 9" off. You might also have a problem with the spare tire being close to the exhaust...

i just bought a 4in mbrp my self and it was very easy to install i would recomend tryin to find someone to help hold it other then that sounds great
|
what is better the 4in or the 5 in performance wise??? Thanks
|
theres really no performance difference because even a 5" system will have a 4" downpipe. It mostly just comes down yo your preference, and the cool factor.
|
Since there is no performance advantages Which one do you guys think sounds better??? 4 or 5in.???:c:
|
Igot a 4in down pipe into 5in into 6in stacks sounds awesome.:U:
|
5 inch dude :U:
|
Can't beat the sound of 5". Not sayin 4" sounds like crap but its amazing what an inch will do ;)
I've messed around with my exhaust, from running no muffler all the way to running it straight out the up-pipes. I think the longer and bigger the exhaust can be the deeper and more badass they sound. |
Is the 5 in ungodley loud taking it easy on the peddle, or is it queit taking it easy?
I hear the 4in is quiet taking it easy and has alittle bark when you peg it. What do you guys think? |
Depends on if you get a Kit with a Muffler
|
Mine's well within reason just fartin around town. However I'm not outside or behind it while I'm driving. Getting on it and you know your loud, regardless :rocking:
I did forget to mention mine is straight-piped. You can get a flow through muffler with both 4 and 5 inch. Exhaust is a guessing game sometimes. |

As was yours :5:
|
the banks monster is nice. just a little quiet for my taste
|
I have 4" turbo back Magnaflo with a 5" tip. You dont want it any louder. I did notice a slight drop in MPG. Am told that combined with cold air intake that is to be expected. Any thoughts? Have now added Hypertech stage 3 so will see,
|
i have a 4" "turbo back" cut up into 5" silverline stacks and i love it the only thing that sucks is the mounting provisions have to find somewhere that has 5" straps to mount in bed system....i love my stacks i can talk on the phone while driving normally now it was straight piped infront of tires that sucked!!!
|
you shouldnt be talkin on the phone and driving anyway :tttt:
|
.... or eating taco bell, shifting a manual, messing with your IPOD, texting..... Of course I don't do that :w2:
|
