EFI Live on stock lb7

My lb7 is completely stock besides 4 inch mbrp straight pipe. i want efi live but dont want to blow my tranny or motor. I mostly just want a smoke/lope tune is some small power tunes. what should I do to my truck to have efi live?

Tyler@TWX 10-30-2012 05:25 PM

You dont have to do anything to your truck, tuning is customized to your trans as well. It works wonders on stock trucks too, I would get a CAI since Gm's are notoriously restrictive.
You can update tuning as you upgrade the truck

Ceastman14 10-30-2012 06:01 PM

okay, I just want a tune with alot of smoke to play around with and 4 power tunes. do I have to get a built tranny or a shift kit?

Tyler@TWX 10-30-2012 06:06 PM

Most legitimate tuners are not going to give you what you are referring to as a smoke tune. At the end of the day they have to put their name on the tuning.

But can I get one that will produce smoke? And what do I have to do to set up efi live on my truck?

Farmboy 2.0 10-30-2012 06:24 PM

I tune for EFI that produces smoke is called a "Race" buy most tuners. You can get stock trans safe tuning that will produce some smoke by most tuners. And that would give you like a optimized stock tune, light tow, heavy tow, Sport Econ, and a Stock Trans race tune

Ceastman14 10-30-2012 06:26 PM

okay, what is the highest hp tune I could get with a stock Allison 1000? and how much smoke would the race tune produce and would it ruin the head by blowing smoke?

Farmboy 2.0 10-30-2012 06:32 PM

100 over stock roughly but constant abuse will shorten trans life. It will produce some but not black out the sky type deal. And as long as you dont go beating on it like a red headed step child you'll be fine.

Ceastman14 10-30-2012 06:39 PM

okay, all I pretty much want is it to blow a good amount of smoke when I want to smoke out my buddies and stuff. what do I need to run efi live on my truck? like do I need a computer and how hard is it to install?

Farmboy 2.0 10-30-2012 06:44 PM

Id do a full drop in ecm or auto cal. Or you can buy a v2 with licenses and buy tunes seperate. The ECM or AutoCal are 5 times easier that the v2 route

Ceastman14 10-30-2012 06:45 PM

what do you mean by ECM? and do i need a lift pump?

Tyler@TWX 10-30-2012 06:47 PM

No you don't need a computer, install is simple through the OBDIi, it is tuning and yes hot tunes will produce smoke, but it is not a smoke tune. It's intent is not to produce excess smoke. It smokes because of the excess fuel.

Agreed, autocal is the easiest

Ceastman14 10-30-2012 06:51 PM

Ya but I would just like to have a tune that would produce some smoke and I was gonna get the dsp5 with the 5 tunes, I want stock, smoke/lope, turbo whistle, tow, race and should I get a intake and lift pump?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

And I need a boost, pyro, and trans piller guages right?

Tyler@TWX 10-30-2012 06:54 PM

Yes on both intake and lift pump, Both a good idea. With DSP5 you have a single DSP5 time that is adjustable on the fly with a DSP5 switch or edge insight. You can get multiple DSP5 tunes as you upgrade

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Of you did the insight monitor it would serve as your gauges as well

Ceastman14 10-30-2012 06:56 PM

Where would you recommend I get my tuning from? I live close to diesel fuel systems of maine and I think they do it there

Tyler@TWX 10-30-2012 06:58 PM

I have what is in my opinion one of the best tuners in the country Kory Willis, Scott also sells tunes from Idaho Rob I believe who is also a outstanding efi tuner

Hotforteacher 02-26-2013 01:16 PM

Depending on where you are in Maine there is a good place down in Nashua NH. Or go to one of the on-line suppliers. Especially one that supports DB!

@ceastman14 had you have any luck with finding someone to tune your truck?

B rack 06-16-2013 05:47 PM

No real need for a lift pump or an intake. The factory intake is good for well over those power levels and a lift pump won't do much for you at those levels either. I doubt you would be running out of fuel with a 100hp tune.

agreed. it has been proven numerous times that the "CAI" are not any better or sometimes worse then the stock filter. i would keep the stock filter. as for the HP, 100 HP is pushing the life on the 5 speed Allison. 60 HP is about the limit for keeping it alive for any length of time.

You don't want to try to make your truck smoke it's un burnt fuel it's not good on your truck at all. If you want to make it smoke go clog your air filter up since you want to mess it up anyway lol.

they call that the trash bag intake mod
