* 2006 Chrysler 300 Touring gets an 8.3-liter Viper V10 engine.
* Chrysler sedan now puts out a reported 525 horsepower.
* The owner modified the car in his own garage.

TOOELE, Utah — Among the Dodge Vipers heating up the drag strip at the 11th Annual Viper Owner's Invitational was a unique car that clearly did not fit in: a 2006 Chrysler 300 Touring with Viper V10 power.

Inside the engine bay sits an 8.3-liter V10 Viper engine that makes a claimed 525 horsepower. The power plant is mated to a T56 Tremec six-speed manual transmission and also features an Aeromotive fuel tank in the trunk, a 3-inch C&R racing radiator and a Sprinter oil filter. Eibach adjustable coil-overs and a sway bar kit were part of his modifications as well.
The car was pretty much rebuilt from the bottom up by the owner, Derek Ekins, in his two-car garage using not much more than a jack stand, a welder and an engine hoist. The only help he got was from Hotwire Auto for the wiring harness, and DC Performance to reflash the ECU.

"I built it knowing about the power and trying to keep it reliable," said Ekins. "I didn't really build it to race it. I just wanted something different. I really liked the Viper, but I couldn't fit my whole family in it."

Inside Line says: An interesting one-off Chrysler that would definitely turn some heads on the street with its throaty V10 exhaust note. — Mike Lysaght, Correspondent
