The fullsize pickup truck market is as competitive now as it's ever been, and with Ford's F-Series line leading the way in sales, GM's Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra twins boasting brand-new designs, you knew Ram wasn't about to rest on its laurels for the 2014 model year.

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....-ecodiesel.jpgAnd so we present to you the 2014 Ram lineup, with the biggest change being the addition of an optional 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine for the 1500 model (the same powerplant that's gotten rave reviews in the latest Jeep Grand Cherokee) and the proliferation of the eight-speed TorqueFlite transmission across the entire model range. That engine boasts 420 pound-feet of torque to go along with its 240 horsepower, which means it ought to be able to tow just about anything the 5.7-liter Hemi can, while returning significantly better fuel mileage. Sadly, Ram has not yet released official estimated mpg figures, though it is claiming best-in-class results (though there aren't any other light-duty diesel pickups to compare against).

Standard on Ram 1500 is the Pentastar V6 engine that was introduced for the 2013 model year, pushing 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque, and the Hemi V8 is optionally available with 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. All engines are mated to the eight-speed automatic. The previously available 4.7-liter V8 has been dropped for 2014.

Pricing for the 2014 Ram 1500 begins at $24,200 (plus $1,095 destination), which is a slight increase over last year's $23,400 MSRP. Adding the diesel engine will increase the sticker by $2,850 over a similarly equipped Hemi model, though we'll have to wait for full pricing information to see how much it adds over the price of a standard V6-equipped Ram 1500. Other new bits and pieces for the Ram 1500 include a Front Park Assist system that utilizes four bezel-less, integrated sensors in the front bumper, and two new colors: Blue Streak and Granite Crystal.

Moving up the ladder to a Heavy Duty Ram brings with it the availability of a new 6.4-liter Hemi engine for an additional $1,495 over a similarly equipped model with 5.7-liter V8. With it comes 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, and it's the first gasoline engine available in the dual-rear-wheel Ram 3500. The HD gets the same new colors as the 1500, plus new 18- and 20-inch wheel designs.

Finally, Ram is officially announcing the availability of the Promaster for 2014. Plenty more details can be found in the press release below, but first, be sure to check out the high-res image gallery above (1500) and below (HD, 5500 Chassis Cab and Promaster).Continue reading Ram reveals 2014 truck lineup, EcoDiesel V6 a $2,850 option on 1500 models
