Blown Engine
 

I have a 2005 Liberty 2.8L CRD (VM) with a blown motor. Will any 2.8L VM be a suitable replacement or does it have to be from a Liberty?

The difficulty is the theft protection. As long as you use the old IP and the ECM you shouldn't have any trouble. If you mix you have a bunch of useless metal.
Make sure to take over ECM and IP.

I found one off a Dodge Caravan CRD, will the bolt pattern line up to the bell housing? Also are the engine mounts in the same place?

Maybe it is easier to tell what is blown at your old engine and to take over the replacement parts.This engine uses Cylinder liners and a very advanced bearing and crank layout.
