I don't use any additives, even when it has drop down into the low 40's !!!

We are talking about the Liberty CRD, right?
The liberty should have a factory installed electric fuel pre heater at the fuel filter with a power output of 150 Watts to prevent clogging the filter. It activates automatically at temperatures below +5° C to ensure proper starting and driving. In Germany the Liberty CRD is also outfitted with an Optima Red Top by factory.
Additives shouldn't be necessary. If starting problems occur the glow plugs and relay should be checked.

I also run Howes, but I'm always looking for new alternatives. Howes works great, but I have to use so much of it to keep my truck running, and I find that it boosts the cetane too much running at the concentrations I need (aprox. 300mL/100L of fuel, approximately double the recommended concentration of 300mL/190L). It does keep everything unclogged, and works very well at that, but the truck seems to run more roughly. I would like to try the Stanadyne Winter formula now that I have found a dealer here at home.

I know alot of guys that run Howes, but I read a lubrication report (I don't recall where) that shows its not much of a lube if at all. The 2 stroke oil came out on top, for obvious reasons, but made me take a second look at my fuel additives.

Where do you get your PowerUP Gen49D from?

The report you are referring to may be found here:

But keep in mind that was referring to Howes Meaner Kleener formula; I'm not sure how it differs from the regular Howes Diesel Fuel Conditioner that is most widely used.

I run a Bio Blend and do not run any additive, have never had a problem with my 05 CRD starting, I do plug the block heater in when it gets down in the teens just so she warms up faster in the am going to work
