I love my wifes.

I'm looking to get one for the wife...

We are looking at one too....but so far we are leaning towards the Nitro....

I haven't looked at a Nitro...maybe i should eh...

It is real nice....no diesel option, but bigger than the liberty, and some nice options....

Lease rates are crappy though, and 0% on the Liberty....

I googled the Nitro and came up with this as well as the SUV...

A friend has a 3 yr. old Liberty CRD diesel. It has recently started blowing more black smoke than usual and the mileage around town has dropped dramatically (10 mpg). I have had several diesels but haven't owned one for ten years so my thinking my be dated. However, the drop in mileage and excess smoke used to usually indicate an injector issue. The dealer keeps telling her that nothing's wrong but cannot account for the drop in mileage or the excess smoke. Actually, the dealer seemed completely clueless. Are there any addictives that will clean the injectors (or is that "old" thinking) any other suggestions?. The car is low mileage (30,000) and she likes it except for the problem with mpg. The last time we took it on a long trip, highway mileage was o.k. -- about 27 mpg. Any thoughts would be appeciated. Thanks - Jack Weber

where can you find one of these, and about what is the cost.

I found mine on autotrader using advance search for liberty with diesel for fuel type, there are a few out there, carmax has some also. You should be able to find a nice clean low mileage one for under $15k

I said that as soon as a domestic automaker produced a diesel that was geared toward MPG not just for towing I would buy one. Then I did. By far the most versatile vehicle I have ever owned. 20+ MPG, great off-road ability and I also tow my 19' fiberglass walleye boat.

:hellox:Have a 05 and love it. But have had EGR issues, which was covered under the extended warranty. The dealer that I bought it from, Jeep pulled there dealership, and the Jeep dealers that I talked to was clueless when it came to the CRD. I did fine a mom and pop dealership which is 50 miles away from where i live but they do all my work on Lil" D ". Seems like the bigger dealerships are not geared to customers but money. Have done some mods and in the process of installing a programmer. I'm talking to 2 companies. But am swaying to 1, they can detune the EGR and other mods ,as needed, not cheap but you can return the EMC to stock if needed. Not pulling the ECM and sending it to them to reprogram. Getting 25 to 30 mpg. Will post after mod is done:humm:

Daughter's had an '06 since it was new. Has spent some shop time for "check engine", and also a bad torque converter. Loves it anyway, because she likes to punch the noise-pedal and impersonate an inky-squid escaping.

Needs a "chip", though. Anybody BOMBed theirs?

Just installed the "eco tune" in our 06 Liberty and so far so good. Haven't had it long enough to know how much of a difference it has made. Did the erg elephant tube a while back after cleaning the erg sensor. MPG seams to be going up on the lie-o-meter. We'll see!!!

What size and flavor of diesel motors are in those Libertys?

Hope that helps. We love ours. It has about 80K and we have had very little problems with it. Biggest problem was when the battery dies and left us stranded. Couldn't even jump start it. I think a cell died and if we would have disconnected the battery and jumped it might have worked. It is my wife's daily driver and she loves it.

Just bought an 06 Sport, this weekend, and already did the EHM, cleaned the MAP, and unplugged the MAF for now. Did my oil change, and am waiting for my transmission pan drain plug from Genos before I do the trans fluid, and ordered a new Stant thermostat for it, as it's running cold. I seem to be getting between 25-30 mpg right now, stock, that's 99 percent highway and 1 percent city, so I'm thrilled with it!

have had mine for almost 4 years now bought with 50k have almost 90k now and i love it! no issues over here. went on lostjeeps.com and did all the EGR modifications on it the first week i bought it. replaced my water pump and timing belt round 75k. knock on wood no major problems yet. i am not getting as good of mileage as some of you but at 21-28mpg i cant complain. and that calculated the long way not on my lie-o-meter as some of you call it lol

I'm new around here but not new to the CRD. Great Jeep! Great Motor to work with… Mines not stock anymore. Ya gota have the GED tunes… SunCoast torque converter, and a CCV. Then she will run like a clock… Keep that MAP sensor clean!! for MPG's:jump:

We bought a 2006 basket case, It was taken to Pearl Jeep and they were a disaster. Took a fixable engine and turned it into garbage. The amount of stupid stuff they did was unbelievable. Chrysler would not stand behind the owner. Lost the head gasket, Lost an inter-cooler hose, lost various hardware, Bent every solid line there was under the hood. broke a electrical connector at the firewall, pulled all the injectors and did not label them as to which hole the came from, broke the fuel return.


We installed a new engine. lift pump, Eco tune. upgraded torque converter, Going to install the EGR elbow soon. Installed the FS2500 bypass filter.

Looking for a better air filter box. I hate the flat filters. I might look into installing a box that would take the same filter as the GM K47 air box used on 1997 and newer 6.5 diesels. The same filter was used on many 1997 and newer GM applications.

We just had the tensioner bolt strip out and take the threads with it. I unscrewed the threads off the bolt.

Sounds like a fairly normal issue with these.

Does anybody have instructions on how to get to the part that is stripped?
