Default Dare to Think Outside the Box...

Our Icebox Cold Air Intake was created to be something other than a "filter on a stick". It was designed to be more of a Heat Shield. In fact that was what Mark, the creator of Icebox Cold Air Intakes, called the intakes originally...The Heat Shield.

Since becoming the new owners of Icebox Intakes in January we have been tossing around ideas about how to make our intakes even better. So heat shield keeps coming to mind....and I kept waking up thinking about how to shield more heat.

Let's face it, it's a fine line between the enclosed factory air box and a filter just open to the heat of the engine compartment. Either its too restrictive or to exposed to all the heat in the engine compartment. This is where our Icebox come in with a happy medium, blocking a lot of that engine compartment heat yet still allowing and encouraging a lot more air flow from cooler sources.

But I have been thinking about the heat that is absorbed by the 16 gauge metal box that we make the Icebox intake out of. What if we could insulate the box from the heat? And how would we do that?

I think that the metal that the icebox is made out of does actually dissipate heat pretty well but what if we could improve on this an actually stop the heat transfer from the intake box itself? That would mean that you could take full advantage of the fresh cooler air coming into the intake filter.

Well here is the exciting news...I think that we have found a solution. It's still in the testing phase though. We have to weight costs for the product, cost of the labor to apply it, how the process will affect production and how the final finish will hold up, etc. But we can share with you that our initial testing is very very encouraging. We just need to do more testing before we bring it to market.
We wanted to share this exciting news on Diesel Bombers first
So in our effort to "think outside the box" and "dare to be great" in our thinking and actions to bring you the best possible cold air intake we would like to ask for your comments and ideas on what you think would make the best "cold air intake"?

Is there something that you want in a cold air intake that currently is not offered on the market? What is most important to you when it comes to a cold air intake? Is it low price? Is it performance? is it quality? Is it available options?

We would really appreciate your input and suggestions! Thanks.

@ ArizonaRedneck....I will keep you posted on progress.

@HighTech_Redneck...good idea. I think that the Icebox is awesome like it is but what I think this will do is to just take it to the next level and reduce a lot of the heat and also some of the noise and quieten it down just a bit. I will keep you posted on my progress and should know something more firm in the next few weeks.

Thanks for your replies and interest!

@Hightech_Redneck....thanks for the help and certainly we can get you extra decals.

@coyropin will keep you posted on progress.

@ Power95 ....darn....sorry about that. When we purchased the business Mark had been working on this 01-04 Duramax and we just got it finished and have a few in stock now. Plans are to continue to work on new designs and keep the ball rolling. So far we have had to concentrate on getting the shop setup and getting some inventory of our existing models built. So for me new designs can't come fast enough but finding it difficult to get my hands on trucks to use to tweak the designs but we are working on some ideas now.

Speaking of that here is something that we have been working on and that is we are taking on a line of basic intakes that will cover most of the later model vehicles. Certainly they are not the Original Icebox design but they will help us cover many of the models that we don't currently make intakes for. So keep your eyes open for our new line of intakes that we will be releasing soon as well as a new line of lifetime Air Filters to give another choice.

We really have a lot of exciting things happening in the background here and are working hard to make things happen in a positive new direction. This is fun and we are really enjoying the challenge and are pulling out all the stops.
