anybody swapped 315 70 16s or similar for 235 85 16s or 265 75 16 and noticed any gains?
less noise more mpg etc etc? i like my 315s but i want somnething easy and cheap to find/match in a hurry at 2 am middle of nowhere with 2 flats |
235/85R16 has kinda fallen to the wayside with modern trucks... 265/75R16 is the same diameter, but much more common.
315/70R16 = 33x12.5 265/75R16 = 31.5x10.5 I would be surprised if you did not see an increase in mileage just because of the reduced rotating weight. My favorite tire used to be BFG Revos, decent price, great traction, nice quite ride, but treadwear left alot to be desired... I would typically get 45K out of a set rotating them every 5K and checking alignment yearly (I worked at a dealership). I have not tried them since they went to the Revo 2 and the price hike... My new favorite is Hercules Terra Trac AT, I have 2 trucks both with 315/75R16 (35x12.5), both trucks have over 30K on the tires and I would be surprised if I did not get another 30K out of them. All the benefits of the old Revos, at less cost and better tread wear.... The first set I bought was 4 years ago (and replaced a set of Revos) I paid $700 out the door, the second (2 years ago) was $800. I like them enough that I have another truck going in tomorrow and it will be getting a set of 265/75R16 even though they are going to cost $800 OTD (could get the new revo for $835) When I was working at the dealership I needed tires for the wife's Mountaineer, I had Revos on it and replaced them with Goodyear Silent Armors (dealership didn't deal with Hercules and the GY had a nice price + rebate). less than 2K miles later had a tread separation and GY wouldn't warranty it because driving it off the freeway caused a gash in the sidewall which they claimed caused the blowout... The truck going in tomorrow had Silent Armors on it too... 30K on the tires and I have had 2 blowouts (both front tires had tread separate) in the last 2 weeks. I check my tire pressure religiously, so needless to say I will not be buying another set of Goodyear tires. |

I just want similar or taller easy to get used Or new at sensible prices i dont mind thinner and i dont Mind quieter |
Had 35" mickey thompson mtz's on my 2006 F250. Got 55,000 miles out of them. Not loud either and load range "E". These or Toyo Open Country is the only tire i would run.
