Maximum revs with no load

Hello,
I am about to go through emissions testing with my diesel and the procedure consists in revving the engine up to the governed speed, fast and for a short duration, with no load
A. Any reason to be concerned considering the engine is in good condition ?

B. Smoke output is measured, so based on that, what can be done to limit smoke ? I am going to use a new air filter and judging by what I see in my rearview mirror, disabling the EGR cuts down smoke (more clean air) under load, I can only see a haze at night. Anything else I can do ? It's a Bosch VE pump, with AFC.

My diesel is stock, with the exception of a muffler delete.

i dont know too much about the Jeeps diesels, but when i went through the "emissions" test i put electrical tape on my MAF sensor. covered up the air path about half way to limit the amount of air it senses so as to lower the diesel injection quantity.

worked like a charm. zero smoke. the testing guy was so surprised at how clean it was that he missed the fact the the catalytic converter was missing. still ran nice too.

this would only work if your engine injects fuel quantity based on air flow.

if not, dont know if it would be worth removing the air filter just prior to the test to maximize the amount of air.

if your vehicle does't smoke a whole lot and clears up quickly, i wouldn't worry about the snap test.
