ZF-6 Swap

I am interested in a new project this summer. I would like to swap out my 5 speed auto for a ZF-6 manual tranny in my 2003 f250.

A couple questions:

Was wondering if there were any write-ups on the procedure like where to cut the hole, what parts are needed from the other truck.

Also does anyone know of any good, reliable websites to buy transmissions without having the fear of getting ripped off. dont really want to buy a 7.3L then completely destroy it doing all this!!

Is this tranny reliable??

I will probably be selling the auto, so if anyone is going the opposite way, that would be great!!

Get a built auto and be done with it. And your auto now is a 4sp not 5.

i do not want an auto to tow with :p i prefer driving a stick

and also im pretty sure it is a 5R110? correct me if i'm wrong. pretty positive it is a 5R110 Torqshift

No, if its a 6.0 is should have the 5 speed 5R110 Torqshift.

I would think you would need the ZF6, the clutch/brake pedals, and a clutch master/slave cylinder. I would just look at another Ford with a ZF6 on how to arrange everything.

Craigslist is about as good of a source as any.

I think there is a difference in the 7.3 & the 6.0 zf-6. I agree with you, I blew the tranny in my '08 last week. (5r110). I'm really missing my hand shaker. As long as you're not racing,or sled pullin the standard is the ONLY way to go. Less BULLS^%T to go wrong. If I could go without my truck for a while I would put a zf-6 in my '08. I say Go for it!:tu:

Sorry, the 6.0 does have the 5R 03 was a split year

yes sorry also, thought you would look at the description. its a late 03, so its a 6.0 :P

also i will be getting a new truck in may when i graduate high school so ill be able to go without my truck. im pretty new at doing this kind of work, but i know for a fact i can drop a tranny, cut the hole, and hook the tranny back up. as far as wiring/electrical.. i cant even get a decent pair of fog lights wired up correctly. so that will have to be fixed :p

i wish someone new a website, because craigslist for my area is a bunch of crooks. thats basically the only people on there...

i thought about giong to a built auto, but thats no fun. i like to feel the power the truck has and i can do that with a standard. and also a cummins will be in it a few years down the road therefore i want a strong tranny behind it.

is the ZF-6 reliable?

It all just nuts and bolts, man. you can do it. and yes the zf-6 is a reliable tranny. My '03 had 265k on it and I never touched it. :tu:

My girlfriends dad has a 2000 f250 with a zf-6 in it with about 275k on it i could buy the whole truck for $3000. Was a strip job truck so it is beat all to sh*t but hey it runs and all the parts are there!

So i nee tranny, pedals, master/slave, and stick. Thats it?? Womt i need some sort of wiring harness or something to wire up say reverse, cruise, high idle release by pushing clutch and stuff like that??

I am 18 and i dont have any experience in doing a swap like this so i need all the info before i start gutting my truck!
