how many people with hood stacks have been pulled over?

so very very badly want a wastegate and exhaust hood stack. i know its illegal but how much does the law pick on ya?

03Powerstroke 12-18-2011 08:48 PM

my friend has one, but he gets pulled over for window tint all the time and they NEVER say anything about the hood stack:tu:

turbo2332 12-18-2011 08:53 PM

cops suck in Georgia Hmmm.

MillerBoyzDiesel 12-19-2011 07:02 AM

we put a hood stack on my buddys truck, cops are pricks here bout smoke or anything else that has to do with a diesel. He has never been stopped once or even had a word with a cop over the hood stack. It draws massive attention though hahaha

HELL YEA!!!:argh: They dont like it when someone has a nicer truck than they do!

DieselDanBoy 12-19-2011 11:00 AM

it really depends on what state your in, i believe where im at now in ohio it is legal because everyone and their brother on campus has one. but where im originally from (new england), dont even think of leaving your driveway, with tints or hood stack. :argh: I'm also an emissions inspector for connecticut, they could dock ya for illegal or improper exhaust equipment, even if the hood stack is legal in that state. all depends on the cop and where your at :tu:

turbo2332 12-19-2011 11:22 AM

so how big are these fines. like a seat belt ticket or a wreckless driving offence? i think there will have to be some devine intervention to stop me at this point. LOL

MillerBoyzDiesel 12-19-2011 11:59 AM

theyd probly hit you with noise violation, there could be something about obstructed view. who knows, cops come up with off the wall stuff when they want to. if they wana nail ya theyre goin to some way or another

Red_Rattler 12-19-2011 12:26 PM

Def won't fly here in Wisco the state patrol would have a fit over it.

turbo2332 12-19-2011 12:38 PM

how much louder is it than my 4inch no muffler exhaust right now?

a guess if fine with me. the truck is load the way it is now but quite in the cab.

ricet07 12-19-2011 01:26 PM

Most states just say that exhaust should exit behind the cab. Some cops dont even know what to look for in the first place though. They probably think it is a redneck hood ornament or something. Id say if you're not stupid with it then you should be fine and its not much louder than regular stacks either just hear more of the turbo.

03Powerstroke 12-19-2011 01:31 PM

DO IT:rocking::choochoo:

Budgreen 12-19-2011 07:05 PM

just to clarify, its illegal in ohio, and pretty much all states that have "laws"

obstructed view, excessive noise, and the exhaust has to exit to the rear of the passenger compartment (which is considered the rear bumper)

depends on where u live as to whether you can get away with it or not.

turbo2332 12-19-2011 07:31 PM

i think we are all in agreement it is illegal everywhere. im just curious to know how much and hard they inforce it everywhere?

Budgreen 12-20-2011 08:27 AM

OK :tu:

I think it really comes down to where you live and drive and how picky the local law enforcement is then.

from experience: If you drive a showroom quality truck, chances are they will leave you alone, if it's all beat up and rusty etc.. your gonna get nailed.

.

MillerBoyzDiesel 12-20-2011 10:14 AM

itd be worth the ocassional ticket, the smoke tornado is cool and at night you can see a orange cone when the egts start getting high. I need to get some vids and pics on here from my buddy.

turbo2332 12-20-2011 04:32 PM

yes you do!!!

Diesel_Daddy6.0 12-26-2011 02:54 AM

No way in hell I'd be able to get away with a hood stack here. CHP (CA Highway Patrol) would have my ass pulled over so fuckin' fast

Yup. They got huge boners for diesels around here and aren't afraid to slap you with a gross pollution ticket or declaring your vehicle unfit for on highway use

TheRobenator 06-13-2012 04:49 PM

Basically any state who requires some kind of exhaust regulation like for example, a state that requires emissions on residential diesels or require you to show cats or something like that won't let it fly.

In georgia, which is where I live, It is quite alright to have a hood stack. I have 4" straight pipe on my 6.0 and got pulled over for my license plate bulb being burnt out.. I asked about my lift kit and exhaust while he was there and he said as long as my headlights touch the road.

What this guy said....except, if I recall correctly, it is stated most everywhere that exhaust must exit behind the furthest most passenger, which is at least behind the cab on pickups. (If it were the rear bumper, then why do factory "off road" packages generally dump before the rear tire?) I would think the primary concern is inhalation of the "carcinogenic" fumes.

Seems like a hood stack would amost be force feeding fumes into the cab's ventilation system... To each his or her own, though... :w2:
