Would You Have Bought One?

Hey Guys, so I was hanging around the shop today, and a pretty good thought came into my head. "Why didn't Ford ever put a dt466 in the fseries?" Then I realized that the size constriction is just wayyyyyy to much, but still, if there had been some type of dt466-derived navistar straight six offered as a powerstroke, would you have bought it over a 7.3 or 6.0? Maybe the straight six backed by some beefed up zf or even a 7 speed? I know I would have. It would have to be smaller and lighterweight, but I personally think it would have sold great.
What do you guys think? Any other non-pickup motor you think would be great in a pickup? (or a derivative of one)

They built what they wanted to build. Don't overthink it... lol

Be way better than the sick liter, that's for sure.

Ive seen a couple of DT466 swapped into F350's, but takes some work. Same goes for the 3116/3126/C7 Cat.

I would personally like a 6V53 in a pickup :choochoo:

You do know a 6V53 is only 318 cubic inches? Not very big.

Still a hoss of an engine, weighs in around 1500lbs, and puts down a respectable ~220hp, which is more than any 12v Cummins, more than the 1st gen PowerStroke, and more than anything GM had until the Dmax. Heck, blows the IDI's out of the water. And add to the fact its been around decades longer than most of those engines.....

On top of that you'd be hard pressed to fit anything bigger in a pickup without major modifications.

Here ya go :rocking:

I've been around Detroits including 53's, 71's , 92's and series 60's. I see this one has a turbo on top of the supercharger which helps but still none of them (excluding the 60) seem to have much torque. Also a little known fact about 2 cycle Detroits is that when they say they have x amount of horses they neglect to tell you they are Shetlands. :scare2: :tttt: :tttt: LOL

I think some of the Yanmar or Volvo marine engines would be great in a pickup truck.

lol at the Shetlands comment

Ah the series 60 isnt a real detroit, the real ones were two stroke :c:

And sure they dont have the most torque, but keep the pedal to the floor and it should pull whatever you want it to, heck, they like gettin run hard. Might not get you there the fastest, but theyre darn cool lol
