Why is Diesel so Expensive?

I recently comented in a thread about the high price of diesel, and I just realized how much it really is nationally. Why is that? How is it cheaper than gas if it takes less refinement to make? Is it because of all the ships and trucks used to transport our goods? And still you'd think gasoline would still be higher.

Diesel jumped so much because there are more diesel trucks (and cars) on the road. It's about supply and demand. Diesel is much cheaper than gasoline to produce yes, but with the oil companies knowing they can bank on this byproduct, they are using this to their utmost advantage. Think about it, if someone wanted to pay you to use your sewage rather than you paying the septic company to take it would you jump at the opportunity? That's exactly what is happening with WVO (waste vegetable oil) from fast food fryers. Restaraunts used to have to pay a company to recycle it and you would be able to get it for whatever it cost you to pick it up, but since the biodiesel boom, there are companies who pay for the oil. Even with the billions of dollars that the oil companies profit, they are always looking for the next way to make more money, hence the rise in diesel prices due to the higher demand of diesel vehicles. Humans are greedy, plain and simple.

You know the government makes more money off fuel than the oil companies?

Diesel_Daddy6.0 05-16-2011 07:48 PM

My mistake. Still the same concept though, just the money is going into a different pocket

I think it's time to take OUR OIL for ourselves.

By force if necessary.

fuc* the govt.

DieselDaddy-I am POSITIVE the oil companies are making a few bucks on us.
LORDDiESEL-NO! we have to steal it all from the Arabs first, then use ours :)

One of the band wagons I wish I had had the money for, couple years ago when prices were at an all time high my buddy said if diesel hit $5.00/gallon he would make biodiesel, had the money set aside for everything. It went $4.979 and he said "$4.97 isn't $5" but when it went $5.03 he bought the full system from Biodiesel Solutions ($3500) a 500 gallon tank trailer with mounted pump and hoses for the WVO, and a 10,000 gallon storage tank. He runs the system 24/7 and whatever doesn't go into the truck (52 gallon replacement tank plus 50 gallons under the toolbox) goes in the tank, once full he can shut the system off and be self sufficient for about 2-3 years.

DIESEL cost more than GAS, cause even thought ULSD is cleaner burning than gas, diesel still has a "DIRTY TAX":dang:
