48" tall stacks ????

I was wondering why nobody runs the longer stacks on there trucks. Every pickup truck I see with stacks have the 36" stacks. I am looking to put stacks on my truck I was trying to see if there is sum reason everyone runs 36". I like the look of the taller ones if anyone has the 48"s can they post a pic or comment thank you.

at what point do stacks become antlers??? ...........personally i think anything 6 inches over the cab is ugly as hell.

450Jimmy 11-23-2010 09:08 PM

HAhaha that pic is pretty funny. Yea 6 inches ovr wud B great! I just dont like when u can only see them from behind. Is that 48" no way that was crazy high. Im thinkin juss a lil ovr the roof the 36" dont even reach the cab roof on the superdutys

ok guys thanks for your un-usefull information. I made my decision. I am going to run the 6x48 aussie or bull haulers. I think stacks hidden behind the cab looks like shit looks like car wash add on chrome. You can not even tell there stax unless you are rite up close to them. But hey too each is own !

CountryGirl91 11-24-2010 08:34 AM

People will go certain heights just out of preference. Maybe a majority of people with stacks like 36"...
The main reason is for looks. If it's anything else, maybe they want the noise to be a little higher/lower... preference.

In my opinion, it's rare to find a truck that has stacks that look good (proportional).

450Jimmy 11-24-2010 09:56 AM

well said countrygirl! I just think stax lower than the roof just does not look rite. I have never seen a 379 pete with stacks lower then the roof or any semi isnt that the look stacks are copying on a pickup ? Like having 8 inch stacks on a pickup truck or big chrome wheels on a lifted offroard truck just dont go togather

biged681985 11-24-2010 10:31 AM

the reason u hardly ever see the 48s is because most people dont like the look of tall stacks. im one of the ones who dont like real tall stacks thats why i went with a custom stack that juat barely misses the top of the cab, to each there own :tu:

This is where everything came from except the stacks and cross box.

Dynaflex Chrome Muffler Stacks | Chrome Stacks | Rubber Intake Elbows | Donaldson Mufflers

They are pretty cheap and quick to ship. I've had good luck with everything I get from them.

I just personally dont like look of stacks over 4-6 inches higher than the cab, VERY few trucks can pull that off, but I have seen a couple that looked good :rocking:

And regarding your question of stacks copying semis.... if I'm running stacks I'm not trying to copy a semi, if I was I would run them high up in the air. I personally like the sound and like throwing my smoke up in the air, and not on the traffic running next to me. and also, a lot of diesel competition organizations require a vertical facing exhaust for safety reasons, so they have to run stack(s), but they may not like the semi look, so they keep it at 36"

Just my personal opinion, I think bullhaulers are the fart cans of the diesel world :moon:

99stackedpowerstroke 11-25-2010 10:18 PM

mine just barley pop over top of cab, i dont like really tall stacks but i dont like short stacks ither, the peak on mine are like 2 inches over cab

PREDATOR 11-27-2010 01:03 PM

Here's my 48" x 8" stacks, a little above the roof line:

PaleHROse 11-27-2010 01:36 PM

More like it^^^^^^:tu:

ltr450 11-27-2010 02:20 PM

i hate the stacks that sit behind the cab to. my 5inch turnout stacks are out 40inch tall and when you look from the front of the truck you see the turnout part. everyone tells me they look good.

No but in defense of many that run them, an upward facing exhaust (i.e. stack) is required by many diesel competition organizations (racing, pulling).

Bull haulers, anything bigger than a 7" (MAYBE 8"), and anything more than a foot over the cab, and you're just trying to get attention.

secondhandsmoke 12-07-2010 03:22 AM

Im a tastefull mods guy. If your truck looks like you bought out a jc whittney catalog then thats a whole nother topic. And yes most the pulls ive been to minus the street truck class requires your exhaust to be straight up or down.

You're granted to your opinion, but why don't you show us some pictures of your ride instead of just trash talking? :humm:

im not talking trash, like you just said im entilted to my opinion. yes on a pulling truck, stack all the way, on a street truck, hell no. Stacks were made for semi's, and in my "opinion" thats where they should stay:argh:

heres the main reason I want to put a stack on my truck....

when I'm around home, out on the highway, or in a small town, I don't mind pourin some black out. but right now I'm primarily driving my truck around stillwater (fairly big town, but nothin impressive), and as much as I like rollin coal, I think its very inconsiderate to smoke out random traffic, especially the grandma driving next to me. kills me how some kids (crap I'm only 21) think this is soooooo cool. :argh: I mean if there's another pickup, especially a diesel next to me, I might roll a little and try to play around, or I might smoke out a ricer if he's being annoying, but not just random people.

but anyways back to my original point, I'm wanting to get a stack, so that if I do have to romp on it, at least the smoke will go up into the air, and not right into the faces of the two lanes of traffic behind me :humm:

99stackedpowerstroke 12-07-2010 11:35 PM

i do it just to be different, and for the simple fact that i want people ta hear my truck coming, i use my truck a lot for hauling, and i cant run duals out the back, do to gooseneck ball

prison 12-08-2010 12:19 AM

i'm puttin one on mine for three reasons.
1. Pullin
2. So anything on the trailer i'm pulling isn't covered in soot (not that i pour smoke i just like to be clean if i'm haulin for somebody else)
3. So when i pass my grandmother i dont get bitch slapped when i see her next

Diesel_Daddy6.0 12-16-2010 10:21 PM

People have their reason for stacks so I will post my reasons for no stacks.

1. My truck is a 6 speed and when I downshift she blows some smoke, not belching with every downshift but over a couple hundred miles that's a lot of smoke. I much rather cleaning low on a trailer than having to get a ladder to clean soot.
2. But more importantly, I live in CA and every fuckstick with a "Hollywood" truck ($10k worth of 12" chrome (or anodized) lift kit, 22" rims with LOW PROFILE mud tread tires, 8" stacks, driven by a dipshit who will never have a use for a truck let alone a diesel and goes 5 miles out of the way to avoid a patch of dirt let alone take it in mud)

codyawise 12-17-2010 11:19 AM

my one buddy has dual 5in stacks off a semi on his cummins

mine just clears the top of the cab. i run one outa respect. when i am wheeling, they guys following me dont wana smell diesel all day long. so i got a single 4 inch. dont have it far above the cab so it isnt catching branches.

i do miss my old stacks though....

bluedieselram 12-17-2010 01:30 PM

i have mine for 3 reasons
1.keeps water out of my engine when im boggin
2.looks
3.so i dont blow soot all over whatever i tow(towed a girls car that i used to date its was a custom green paint once i took from where it broke down at to her house it was 2-tone green on the drivers side & soot black on passengers side biggest mistake i made:ouch:)
