it say 745-782# does anybody know a way to shave more weight off.
Im trying to build a lawn garden pulling tractor and to fit in the 4cyl class i need to be under 1500# and im 270 myself

That engine is super solid all the way through. Id be willing to bet that the head is nearly a hundred pounds on its own. You'll have to get creative and then come in right under the limit. Maybe a dry sump crankcase for starters. There's gonna be several tabs, bosses, and the like that can come off but then your engine is dedicated to that tractor. You'll probably be better off switching to a lighter engine. Which is a shame considering the power you can get out of a 4BT...

well i could always steup and run the v8 class which is 1700# limit and im sure the 4bt will hold its own because the tire rules pretty make anything above 300hp useless

zjohnsonua 10-28-2010 11:49 AM

how big are these tractors??? this sounds like it could be interesting. The 4bt is capable of the 200hp/380tq neighborhood pretty readily. You just have to slide/replace the plate. Power definitely wont be a problem for you.

Wow, i never thought I'd see a V8 in a lawn mower haha. But it's pretty slick. It's got some ideas rolling around my head now.

Have you thought of or looked into the 3.3L cummins i think they call it a b3 cummins. Think it would give you alittle more leway on for weight

rednekroper05 10-28-2010 03:40 PM

i have never heard about a 3.3l cummins but yeah that may be the way to go.

As far as the v8s yeah they are cool there is a guy that runs another similar circiut that has 500ci caddy engine in his. they havent really been receptive to diesels yet.

My favoraite ones are the ones with motorcycle engines on them
