monitor manual trans temp?

I've seen that one of the first things to get is a transmission temp, boost and fuel press gauge. Is there a need to monitor the temp for a manual transmission if I'm not towing heavy loads or attempting 10 sec runs?

Maybe not a NEED, but I want one regardless of transmission type. My buddy has his '00 RAM with a 5 speed has his in his PTO plate.

Same here.. PTO plate.

With the manual I chose to go with boost, egt, and fuel pressure in my 3 guage pillar, but I've thought about a trans temp guage. :c:

Manual transmissions in Diesel Pickup trucks are usually pretty strong.
Do you already have clutch slip?
Before spending that money into a tranny temp meter it would be wise to save a bit longer and to upgrade the clutch disc- the weakest link in a manual tranny.

Just have in mind that the 100% of torque output in front the tranny will result down to around average 92.5% behind the tranny in direct gear. That means if you insert 100hp you will lose 7.5 hp in heat and friction.
Thats not that much to worry about than in an automatic tranny.
Trannys are calculated with torque so I wouldn't worry about hp as long as the clutch can withstand the applied torque.

You don't tow- so there is no need for a meter- save your money and upgrade your clutch disc when necessary.

Thanks, no slippage yet, but I just got the truck and not sure I would recognize slippage. Everything seems directly connected, when I step on the fun pedal it goes, when I let off it slows down, love it.

Thinking of getting the Edge w/attitude that will come with trans monitor. Also will upgrade the clutch when it needs replacing. I've heard about South Bend any others?

South bend is the brand I heard. don't about others.
Hopefully it's not like Sachs clutches: made by Sachs, rebranded and sold by 10 different companies.

If I had a truck with a manual I would still put a gauge on the pillar for the transmission. An Edge Juice with Attitude monitors fuel pressure and alerts you when it is too low.
