The Roof Stack

Well I'm sure this is going to spark controversy. But here it goes.

I have never been an advocate against Black Smoke , and i have said in the past if it wasn't for the Black Smoke over 1/2 of us wouldn't of got our feet wet in diesel vehicles. its what first attracted our attention ... sure after you got more involved and educated you may of jumped on the "Smoke is Bad MmmmKay" wagon.. but for the most part you have to admit that the Black smoke is/was intriguing.

Im still a big fan of it and its pretty much my greeting to other Diesel owners as we pass on the highway as well as my anti tailgating determent. Now i do agree that there is a place and time for everything , like its not cool to smoke Motorcycles , but pedestrians and bicycles are bonus points . :D

My avatar is a picture my 7yr old son did.... funny how it has a Roof Stack rolling black smoke....

like it or not Its our identity.

Smoke On Bombers :choochoo:

... now to figure out how to roof stack my truck :humm:

Thats awesome roof stack man. I do have to agree with you though on the smoking thing there is a time and a place but it def pretty fun at times to smoke a pain in the a$$ out when they are taigaiting you.

ArizonaRedneck 06-04-2010 02:11 PM

yep definetly a place for it though and thats the hard part to figure out for some of us though :w2:

lol admittedly I never thought smoking diesel pickups was cool; the first time I saw a Dodge Cummins lay black smoke down from a set of lights I wondered wtf was wrong with it... That was probably 10 years ago. I never knew what was going on. But I did always think a K-whopper or a 379 twisting off the line blowing big dark exhaust clouds from dual stacks was an awesome sight, and hearing that turbo whistle away under full load. :jump::tu:

Cool picture man. :rocking:

I HAVE SEEN A ROOF STACK!!! it was on a mud racing truck in ohio. guy had a late 60's early 70's burban with 2 stacks coming up threw the back of the truck threw the roof. it was a gasser but still.

found a pic of it!

For the roof stack maybe something similar to a snorkel for an air intake since I'm sure that you don't want a pipe running up through your truck somewhere. I'd kinda like to put stacks on an Excursion though...:humm:

And for smoke, I must admit that it was the number one thing that got me into diesels. I have since learned quite a bit and since my truck doesn't smoke very much :dang: I haven't had the opportunity to learn when and where the best time is, but I will someday. And I agree on the peds and bicyclists because we have tons of people riding on or over the white line and they won't move and I kinda wish my truck smoked more to give them a little "hint" that they are in the way and making themselves a safety hazard.

Wasn't there a Suburban in the TTC that had a 12V in it with a roof stack?:humm:

12vcummins96 06-04-2010 08:44 PM

yeah the black smoke of the truck is fun somtimes and is my call to other diesel trucks but within reason and it looks like your truck chase did a fine job:choochoo:

yes! I loved the sight of that thing rollin coal out the back of the roof

personally, I try to keep the smoke down in mormal driving, but if I feel the need to get on it it's hard to avoid with a mechanical motor.

cumminspwrram59 06-07-2010 09:33 AM

sweet picture your son drew. black smoke is what draws us in and keeps us around like it or not. ive never had any one ask about my truck with out the first thing them asking is " does it smoke?" everytime i have to drop my head and say not yet:(

crzycummins 06-07-2010 12:05 PM

:tu:well said. i think most diesel enthusiasts feel the same

Begle1 06-07-2010 09:50 PM

Black smoke had absolutely nothing to do with why I began to like or continue to like Diesels. :tttt:

DB Admin 06-07-2010 10:36 PM

I didn't say everyone Begle , and pretty much 100% of the time when someone does say EVERYONE that excludes you anyway.

tiremann9669 06-08-2010 12:25 AM

I guess it depends if you like the guy on the motorcycle or not :moon:

I love diesels and black smoke, Im a new diesel owner myself, I think it is badass, however I have to disagree on the smoking out bicyclists, I am an avid biker,(not a roadie) I do alot of mountain biking, dirt jumping, downhill etc, and if I ever get smoked out, I make sure to catch up to the truck at a stoplight and smash their mirror off, or slash their tires, after I follow them home, shit like that just extremely pisses me off, you have no Idea that the guy on the bike has a diesel truck himself, but ( smoking him out) is just retarded, unless he did something stupid,

I also carry a pistol on me when riding at night, so if a car swerves at me, or a diesel smokes me out, I wont be afraid to stick that gun in your face at the next light and make you fear for your life, just like you did to me, fucking punks.....

this is why most people associate diesel truck owners as fat ass imbred rednecks....
I look forward to my next encounter with a jackass who thinks it is funny.....

let the hating begin.......

I agree with you but I too am guilty of doing it BUT I had a legit reason(in my eyes atleast). The group was riding on a windy road taking up the entire lane and would not get over for me and the huge line of cars behind me to pass. When there was finally a opening I floored it and they got a little smoke(my truck only leaves a haze)

_hollywood 06-16-2010 12:39 AM

I guess I got a little carried away, lol.... I also get upset at the roadies who take up the whole lane, and dont even move over when they can.....shit even I ride waaaay on the right side...

I guess im directing it to those guys who purposely go out of their way to splash me or get waaay to close for comfort.....

I once had a group of kids roll up next to me and yell " get a car loser!!!" I was like uh my bike is worth more than that car your in, never mind the car in my driveway....... some people just have no clue....

back to topic, I love stacks, but I dont think my 6.5 would smoke enough to get one.....

x3 while i do believe that blowing smoke during a burnout or just revving it to show off your trucks power is cool, I believe that smoking ANYONE out or doing it randomly is kinda pointless and childish, diesel prices are high enough without burning more more then you need to.

blacktruck 06-18-2010 08:00 AM

My $0.02 here

A little smoke is cool on occassion. Too many guys out there blowing smoke when it isn't cool. I ain't into trying to be sensitive but we all got to share the space out there. No need to piss everyone else off just because we are there.

Now that's passion! Very nice post.

7.3 Cowboy 06-19-2010 12:58 PM

My truck smokes about all the time on my 80 tune, but i dont go around smoking everybody out unless they are tailegating or something like that. I agree there is a time and place to smoke people out and that alotta people dont know when that time or place is.
