Stacks
 
Are Stacks the way to go performance wise or are they just a waste of money?

I myself have read that they do help out performance.

Am i better off with stacks or with an exhaust in the stock location? I do like the looks of stacks but im not all about looks. I want performance to.

stacks are for geting the smoke up and over yer load and nothing more..................they look great but add nothing to performance

bottom line a diesel likes no backpressure at all no matter what the exhaust orentation

now if you want stacks tell yer wife they will improve economy :ha:............works every time

years ago when I had a wife she told me once my truck was setting in the driveway overflowing with fuel becuse it made so good of milage it makes fuel heheheeee

Ok thanks, I just wasnt sure.

And Whit, i just want to let you kno that i dont have a wife, so it would be easy to convince her. lol

Also im a landscaper so stacks would be nice to keep the exhaust from blowing all over my equipment. Since it seems it would be the same either way, im goin to price out an exhaust that sits in the stock location since that would be a little more professional than stacks. This 7.3 is goin to be my daily driver and work truck and ive already had some shit about stacks lookin unprofessional. Im just tryin to get ideas thats all.

I was thinkin a 6 inch either way i went, but someone told me in another post that 6 inch wouldnt do anything for EGTs and that a 4 or 5 inch is all i would need. Now if a diesel dont like back pressure wouldnt a 6 inch be better. If it doesnt make a difference then ill prolly go with a 5 inch since it would be a little cheaper.

i have a 5 it's more than enough for egts idk why youd want 6 plus i took my stacks off cuz everytime i pulled a load of hay it'd always have a black front

Pipe Dreams Diesel enthusiasts already know the great power potential and more efficient fuel consumption offered by a diesel truck.All that power and economy doesnt come without picking the right parts though. An after market high flow exhaust system has to do more than simply make your truck sound better. Point in case with a 4" vs. 5 or 6 inch system, how big do you need to go? To answer that first we need to go over a few basics. On most contemporary turbodiesel engines, the exhaust comes right off the exit of the turbo and after market exhaust manufacturers offer more than one tubing size to vent the exhaust more quickly. One advantage of moving exhaust gasses quickly and efficiently is to reduce buildup of heat. Turbo diesel engines generate alot of heat, especially when the engine is under a heavy load. A high flow exhaust actually allows your diesel engine to run cooler and adds the potential for more boost when towing. Large diameter tubing also reduces backpressure, making it easier for the pistons to shove that exhaust out of the cylenders and resulting inmore horsepower. Less backpressure allows the turbin to spin more efficiently, therefore it will build boost quicker and run cooler. Interestingly enough however there is a point where bigger isnt necessarly better. While engine testing indicates that going from 3-1/2" to 4" can reduce backpressure by as much as 98%, ther can be less than 2% reduction above 4" exhaust. SO while a 5 or 6" exhaust looks cool it wont give you much more than just a coolness factor

Whit, i like that. Now i understand.

It all make sense now. So a 4inch system would be plenty and a 5 inch system wont really do much but just look more kool. Well ive definitely decided i dont need a 6inch system weather its stacks or a regular exhaust system. If i get stacks which im leaning away from now then all i would get is a 5inch system. If i got a regular dual system it would have to be a 4inch system since ive been told thats the biggest a dual kit comes in. If its a single system then ill prolly just get a 5inch kit.

All im trying to do is get ideas and narrow it down so i can decide on an exhaust system and make the right choice.

they look kinda cool and they will make the truck louder as well. I don't really like them but my girlfriend told me she thinks cool duals are gay when I told her I'm selling the stacks. :sad:

Well, I think im goin with duals. I do like stacks but i think im just goin with a 4inch turbo back dual exhaust.
