Short Lived Loved Truck, Fixin to be on her feet

Well lets see I bought my truck a year ago.. and its the first one for me to BOMB so lets just say I'm kinda attached. Like a first GF that you go all the way with ... HAHA:lol88:... And a few weeks ago I was driving to school and my truck got hot.. so I knew something was up. Checked it out and thought it was just a cracked freeze plug, but got a closer look and found out that it was the block that cracked. So i tried to stop it with Liquid glass, and then Bars Stop Leak, needless to say they didnt help a bit. My parents Strongly suggested that I seal it and sell it. But first off I'm not that kinda guy, if i did that it would be on my consious forever, maybe im soft hearted but to me that just ain't right. And second i love my truck and it would kill me to sell it. But I found a truck i liked and decieded that if i could stop the leak I would try it. I tried to use high heat temp something or another, and JB weld. Nothing worked, so i called a guy that told me he would weld it and he still has not called me back, Jack Ass. My uncle called and told me that he has a block i can use. and my brother has a friend that would change the motor out for $1,000 including swapping the head. So now im on that route driving a pathetic 4 Banger and trying to figure out all this 99 to 02 block stuff because im doing the rebuilding on it. Just I guess telling a Story.. and, this is why im broke LOL... This is soppose to be in show and Tell I think?

53 Block FAQ and Information

i've heard that if you just weld a crack in a block, it will just continue to crack. I've also heard that the proper way to fix it is to make a small cut perpendicular to the crack at both ends, then weld it all back up. I watched my uncle do this with an old tractor and it fixed his problem. please correct me if i'm worng everybody. im just tryin to help but i would really hate to give someone faulty advice.

1999 Sport Cummins 03-28-2010 08:56 PM

well i was going to weld it... but i talked to some ppl and decided not to,, then after i pulled it i found LOCK'N'SWITCH.... damn... but now im just looking for another block again because the 02 I found was all scrached up in the #3, And #6, n i really dont want to bore it out. So back to square one. Oh and on the dmax i think id rather fred flinstone it... haha... least id have more get up n go, Jk

A very entertaining thread to say the least!:tttt::tu:...you have a very nice sport truck there and I agree that you should keep it...have you looked into any specialized Dodge truck salvage yards?...I know there prices are higher then any P&P yard but they will usually guarantee their motors for like 90 days or more...I got a quote from a place here in NM and it was 2500 bucks for a complete engine...and I have seen new crate engine on E-bay go for 5G's for a 0 mile motor...another good place is your local auto auction...you can pick up a low mileage totaled out truck with a newer engine for as low as 1000 bucks and scrap the rest...I wish you luck on your engine search and rebuild.:c:
