Bad weather forecast and I have to drive...
 

The weather forecast for Monday is very bad. Icey road conditions and snow. They predict huge traffic jams up to 60 miles length.
But I have to drive. I think its best to avoid highways.
What shall I take along with me to prevent getting lost?
I already packed in tire chains for the front and rear.
Shall I take some food and something to drink?
I fueled up and ckecked all fluids.
shall i take extra clothing? I feel a bit weird because its Europe and not the US. But I think You have much better winter experience than we have, because You have those huge snow storms.
Do you have any useful advice for me?

Yes always plan for the worst! Extra warm clothing, Blankets, Food, More than enough Water, Also a roll of toilet paper in a metal coffee can can be used for heat if stranded and cannot run the vehicle, The tightly wound paper will burn for quite awhile. Just a few things to think about good luck and be safe. :c:

Keep a great following distance, run 4x4 as much as you can, so your going to have to limit your speed to less than 55. Don't use cruise control, if you happen to be in 2 wheel and you start to fish tale, don't slam on the brakes or hit the gas. Instead, let off the pedal and get the transmission into neutral.

I would bring something to drink and eat, bring some extra fuel with you also in case you do get stranded. From there, use better judgment. If you think it's getting way too bad, turn around, and head back to the closest town. I'd rather be in a warm bed, than stranded in the middle of nowhere. Nobody is in that big a hurry to get a job done.

These items are on the do list:

- clothing
- blankets
- TP and coffee can, matches and candels

- food
- water

- extra 5 gal fuel can

I have to head back to be on Duty- I will leave at least a couple of hours earlier.
I have real winter tires, but I'm worried a bit about those idiots behind me.

if i were you, id leave a day early and get there before the storm hits, so you wont have to even worry about it.

ice is bad.. snow and slush not so bad.

what do you have over there as far as road maintenance? plow trucks? salt/sand/cinder spreaders? your best bet would be to stick to main roads since they will be more traveled and in better shape. but it will take a long time.

how out in the middle of nowhere will you be? if your in generally populated areas don't worry as much about being stranded, general nature people won't let you freeze, bring a drink and some snacks and some extra clothes.

if your gonna be out far from any cities bring what you think you would need if you were going to be out in the elements for a day or 2. trail mix, protien bars and things like that to keep energy up, water or some sports drinks, gatorade?

I believe your driving a jeep? shorter wheelbase vehicles spin out a lot easier. i would keep in 4wd anywhere the road has anything but water. feel out the conditions and dont drive faster than you feel safe regardless of what other traffic is doing,

watch out for black ice.. the road looks wet but nothing is kicking up off the tires = bad!

think I covered quite a bit, maybe too much but I don't know if you have driven in bad conditions before or at all.

a sandbag or cat litter can be used for traction when spread around.
WASHER FLUID you can end up using a lot if they treat the roads with anything, it will kick up and make the windshiels nasty!

I will leave tomorrow! The first 100miles will be packed with heavy traffic.
Just one simple accident and traffic will stay for hours. That the reason I wanted to avoid the Autobahn. The second 100miles will be without traffic at all. It's the north of germany. But road conditions will be bad up there. There are always some idiots driving way to fast.
I will keep my HD tire chains with me. So I won't need any sand or litter.
Washer fluid is a very good idea! I will buy two extra jugs. They will spread salt and the window is blind within a couple of minutes.

So, I'm leaving now- The Jeep is prepared as I followed your all advice.
Weather is going worse- it's snowing right now with strong winds.

I think I wouldn't be able to do it tomorrow.
