Solid flexplate good or bad??

I am going through my transmission today and tomorrow and meanwhile I found an interesting topic on the forums. Apparently a solid flexplate is a bad idea? Supposably they are tough on input shafts? I purchased a solid billet flexplate and a billet input shaft and now Im wondering if I need to exchange the flexplate? Any help would be great!

:humm: what do you mean by solid?? The input shaft should be fine what you put stress on that would be how tight the converter locks up...im not a 100% but all flexplates are solid and none have a spring hub like some clutches have, i think that is what your refering too

Well there is an amount of flex that a flexplate "should" have apparently. The flexplate I have looks like a solid disk made of billet steel. The others have shapes cut out of themand apparently those have a little bit of flex. I am going with a triple disk converter.

ok, ill tell you i dont know the first thing about the way those things work...did you just buy the solid flexplate or did a tranny builder recomend it to you for your application...if a builder recommended it then i would say you would be fine, as long as said builder is some one with notable name not unlce buck who has rebuilt a few turbo 350's in his garage back in the 90's

Well I did purchase the parts from PATC transmission parts and they have all of their parts either in kits or seperately and this came in a kit. Unfortunately I do have an "Uncle Buck" building my transmission. He has been building transmissions for the last 30 years and the 727 is his favorite transmission. I have seen for myself that he knows what he is doing with the guts of this transmissions, if he doesnt he is very good at being full of poop. Wish me luck!

noticed i said a few tranny if he has been at it 30 years then you should be fine unless like you said he is full poop...:D
