overhauling an nv4500

my trans is thrashed and I need to get the truck running within a month or so. With proper documentation, can I do this by myself? I have the tools, just wondering if its something where I actually have to specifically know what I'm doing, or if I can follow instructions and get it done. I need to change one countershaft gear, one mainshaft gear, input shaft, and probably all the bearings considering how many gear teeth are now ground into the fluid.
Was thinking about the documentation that Dan made at quad 4x4. Any other suggestions? should I not even try and tow it 1k miles home? I'm pretty sure I can do it, but don't wanna not know what I'm doing and thrash a bunch of new parts.

I think I'll pull the trigger on it.

My roommate (UTI student) informed me that he is now trained to overhaul it. After busting out laughing, I decided if they say he can do it, I shouldn't have a problem doing it myself. :argh:

I got the quad 4x4 manual, been looking through it. I put up some pics of the gears in another thread. My gear puller isn't long enough to get the 5th gear off so I'ma have to throw it in the trunk of my car and go down to the offroad shop tomorrow and get it pulled. I'll continue tearing it down probably thursday. Class tomorrow and wednesday evening, then some time to work on it again.
