what's the scoop on the '02 D-max?

My gramps has his owned since new, 80k mile 02 2500 Chevy, long bed ex-cab 2wd that he's finally going to get rid of, they can't haul the 5th wheel around anymore and both of them are having a hard time climbing into the truck as they're in their late 80's.

Anyway, as far as I know, the injector recall has been taken care of and one or two other warranty issues, the thing is practically brand new since he drives it super easy and keeps it clean.

I've always been of the Cummins truck persuasion, personally, because of what I need from a truck. But I'm looking at something for my lady to drive around in, she doesn't need a solid front axle, 4x4 or a work truck; really just looking for a reasonable replacement for her little 4 door roller skate that she's SO done with driving!

I'm thinking that a crew cab short bed would be more ideal; but Gramps' price on this thing would be...well, I'd feel kinda bad.

what configuration is it? What price ballpark?
If pops is selling it to you at a good price with 80k, you can't go wrong. Everyone always says how great the D-maxes are for daily drivers. :U: I'm actually envious, I'd love to have a second rig.

By configuration, do you mean auto/manual? It's the Allison auto. Just looking at it as her daily driver, most I'd do would be exhaust and air intake.

Blue book is 15,900; don't know what market price or my price would be, probably pretty cheap, though.

I'd say if the injector issues have been resolved, it would be a sweet ride. Easy to boost power. Very reliable.:U: As long as she isn't intimidated by the ECLB length. Can't convice the wife that a CCLB isn't too long.

A deal is a deal. There is nothing wrong with the LB7 series engines and the injectors are fine if the fuel is filtered properly. GM dropped the ball on that one and the injectors are being sand blasted with dirty fuel. If you are going to run power then get a FASS or similar system that runs a 3 micron filter and water separator. If you do not plan on upping the power then an additional filter is all you need. Also, air upgrades such as intake systems and exhaust upgrades don’t do much good without the power upgrades. The reason to do air upgrades is to reduce the excessive exhaust temperatures that result from extra power. More air won’t make more power. If you just want more noise or don’t like buying replacement air filters then that is a reason to go ahead with those also.

no, she's not at all intimidated by wheelbase. she works with one of our local youth groups and she always puts up a bit of a fight to be able to drive the diesel excursion when they go on trips!:U: We'd both prefer a CCSB but an XCLB for ridiculously cheap would be fantastic.
