Turbo Guard?

i have been reading about the turbo guard bov from bd. ive read that it will keep you from damaging your turbo blah blah blah. but is it really worth the $600ish asking price? since diesels get there vacuum sorce from the vacuum pump couldnt you use that vacuum on a $50 bov instead of the "computer" controlled bd diesel bov?

i wouldnt mind running one to save my d66 turbo, but would it really keep me from ruining my turbo?

heres some info on the bd diesel bov...

Closing the throttle suddenly when the engine is under load can result in turbo damage. BD’s TurboGuard blow-off valve protects your stock or aftermarket turbo from surging and possible compressor wheel explosions. This new advanced TurboGuard kit features adjustable valve opening pressure and a microprocessor with six different custom settings, including valve opening pressure, activation sensitivity, clutch cancellation, and more.

If I were runnin the high boost pressures and an expensive aftermarket turbo I wouldn't be without it. But on a stock turbo and so called normal boost pressures it would be hard to bark it hard enough to do any damage. I'm sure it's been done but not somethin to worry about.

Just don't back out of the throttle fast under high boost.

One key point to having a BOV that everyone forgets is the prevention of a runaway engine. Most BOV's will blow open if it senses a runaway engine and will remove any boost to the engine feeding the situation. If you have an expensive aftermarket turbo and no computer controls I say get one.
