MTO Ontario Engine Swap Rules
Hey,
I want to know what the rules are regarding gas to diesel engine conversions in light duty vehicles, specifically a 2001 Ford Ranger. I swapped in a 2006 Kubota with plans of using the family farm to acquire farm plates and avoid e-testing. When I go to the licencing office they tell me the rules have change for farm plates and now I would need my own OFA card to get Farm plates. Long story short there was still a valid e-test on my truck from the previous gas engine so I was able to get it licensed for now. However, in a year or two I will need to get another e-test done to renew my licence. I have heard of changing the ownership to hot rod status. I would like to avoid this at all costs because I don't want my insurance company thinking it's a highly modified truck or something. Especially since I swapped in an engine with 2 less cylinders, half the displacement and less than half the horse power. Please let me know if you have any experience with this, or if anyone knows how to get a hot e-test in southern ontario :lol88: |
