needing some help....to diesel or not?

Ok, So currently I have my truck up for sale. Its a 2009 tacoma, with a 6" lift, bilstein 5100's on the front, rolling 37" mud graps. It has 74k miles and no issues. Currently my payment on it kinda sucks. My wife is not working currently and I am wanting to get cheaper payments.

Here is my delimma. I can keep my truck and refinance to a lower payment. Keep the joy I have with building it up myself. (it was stock and I did all myself). I get crappy gas mileage as the 37's are a little much to turn and have not regeared yet.

OR....

I can keep my truck up for sale (someone wanting to get it this weekend), get about 5k more than I owe and put toward a little older diesel. The downsides here are I may get someones problems, diesel fuel cost a little more...but mileage should be better, and have less payments than currently.

I would miss my tacoma because of the time and stuff I have put into it.

A diesel is the only thing I am considering, due to I like turbo vehicles, love the sound, the mileage and I tow my boat here and there which my tacoma pulls like a snail while drinking the gas like crazy.

What would you guys do?

I have been looking at 03+ cummins (need 4 doors)
7.3 power strokes, some 6.0 if they are low miles or have been bulletproofed
and some of the duramaxes.
