Opening DPC 2014 with horsepower and torque numbersThe chassis dyno competition, held at ATS Diesel, was the first and only event of Day One of competition at the 2014 Diesel Power Challenge. This event was all about the numbers, as each vehicle’s peak horsepower and torque numbers were added together for an overall total, per pull. The vehicle with the highest overall number (sum of horsepower and torque) would be declared the winner of the event. Each truck was given the opportunity to make three pulls, with the highest of the three pulls counting. Therefore, a high-horsepower, low-torque pull could result in the same number as a low-horsepower, high-torque pull. The horsepower and torque numbers had to come from the same pull. The bottom line was that each competitor aimed for maximum horsepower and maximum torque. Nitrous was allowed.

All ten trucks physically hit the dyno. The plagued ’11 Chevy Silverado of Cory Chomos was pushed onto the dyno just to "complete" the event, which was better than a DNS. There were no catastrophic backfires or dramatic failures on the dyno this year. However, a couple of torque converters might have met their final challenge.

Now for the good part! Listed below was the running order (randomly generated, except for last year’s winner who went last) and the horsepower and torque for the pull that resulted in the highest overall number for each competitor.

Stay tuned for tomorrow's full day of quarter mile, eighth mile trailer tow, and trailer obstacle course from Bandimere Raceway!
