VP44 low mileage
I just joined the forum and posted in the new members with specifics on my ride but here is a quick run down.
99' 24v NV4500 60K Original Miles! I am very familiar with the weak fuel systems in these trucks, mainly the lift pumps. I have a couple questions which are basically subjective and asking opinions as if it were your truck. 1. On a truck with this low of mileage would you be worried about the lift pump enough to replace it? Or would you not be scared to run it a little longer with no way to monitor FP and replace it a few more miles down the road. Just don't wanna waste money on replacing a part that is not bad if its not really necessary this early on(as far as miles go). 2. I have heard/read that not letting your fuel level get too low can increase the life of a lift pump. Is there any truth to this? From what I understand these fail randomly mainly due to electronic malfunction so I don't see how it working harder or easier would change the life expectancy on it but I'm not sure and have no 1st hand experience. |
I think dodge recommends changing it every 100,000 miles. The best thing would to get a fuel pressure gauge and don't let it get under 10psi at WOT. For the life of it they say that anything under 1/4 tank will hurt it cause the fuel gets hotter..

Good info. Getting a FP Guage is Def on the list however not sure how I want to go about it. Don't want pods or Guage sticking out like a race car and sometime down the road would like a programmer and if it displays FP then maybe that needs to be my first mod.
