It could be anywhere from $67 in three years to $15,619 in five years, although it’s typically in the $2,000 to $6,000 range, including the extra expense of the diesel engine itself. For example, take the Mercedes-Benz. In a three-year plan, the GL saved owners $13,514 (and the E, M, and R Class Benzes did pretty good, too), while the Volkswagen Jetta and Golf saved $3,128 and $5,013, respectively.
