I don't know where to stick this on the forum.

For starters I wonder if anyone knows where I might snag an electric shut off assembly and maybe even the manual idle speed adjuster thing.

Maybe somebody will know a source for the filter that goes up by the engine? It only came factory with one and the pick up sock. It's getting a spin on cat filter/separator soon.

I wouldn't mind knowing which screws to turn on the injection pump to adjust the fuel.

I've never even heard of these until I recently found this one. It's simple as an anvil and still running very well.

I never heard of one till about 30 seconds ago, had no idea a diesel was available in 78 :pca1:

i find it amusing that Dodge also stuck a DIESEL in a Half-Ton :)

Chevy used to have 6.5 diesels in there half tons for a little while, I wish dodge would do it again lol

Today I learned that the shut off assembly is a Dodge created gimmick using a wiper motor and presumably goes into park position to mechanically push the rod forward to shut off fuel. So much for thinking it must be a common Mitsubishi part.

I suppose I'll check it electrically and then see if it's insides are packed full of stuff that looks like bad cornbread.


Anyone recognize that as a wiper motor? Looks like one to me although I have no idea what from. I'd assume mopar.

Getting that ugly bailing wire off the shut off rod and it shutting off with the key would make me happier.

You could always use a choke cable, but it wouldn't shut off with the key but would look better. And it looks like a wiper motor from a box van but it probily isnt

All the fuel hoses are just about completely replaced and the now clean tank ready to go back on.

Once that's done I'll dig into making the electric shut off work as intended. I'm guessing it can be
made to work no matter what may be the problem.

It could be completely worn out, but, that's why welding machines, machine shop equipment, JB and duct tape exist.

I would like to see exactly how the manual idle cable was perched/anchored and connected to the throttle lever when this thing was new.

4-liter Inline 6.....hmmmmm.... possibly the most legendary Jeep gas engine was a 4-liter inline 6... hmmm.... seems like that's kind of a good rule of thumb for light-duty trucking. gimme a 4L inline 6, and don't expect me to be on time, ever again

The AMC 6 has it all over this for horsepower, but, I'd just about swear it makes it 160+ ft/lbs from idle right up until the governor says 'all done'.

I really don't mind the Loadflite automatic's performance at all, I kinda like it. It would be nice to have a manual though, although I'm not convinced there would be much, if any, acceleration gained by giving up the torque converter. Fuel mileage for the manual would have to be better.

Oddly enough, the factory diesel supplement to the owners manual says it is not recommended to use these for towing! Never let it be said the Mopar honchos didn't have access to and partake of good recreational substances.

Rod's father advised me regarding the three injection pump positions and I do think I'll feed it some cold ram air and install a straight thru type muffler before bumping the timing.

Cool guy and with years of hands on experience based knowledge to share. I'm deducing three generations of these guys fooling with these trucks.

Anyhow, perhaps this thread will summons or conjure up other of these scarce rigs and I certainly will be adding more detail pix very soon as well as some of the factory and dealer documentation.
