Tool Bag and Bug Out Bag (BOB)

The tool bag and Bug Out Bag were items mentioned in my other article here in the Travelin' section:

https://www.dieselbombers.com/travel...-list-how.html

I thought I would go ahead and break down the contents of them a little further here.

Here’s my Tool Bag.

Well, allot of the tools are pretty self explanatory by just seeing a picture, so I’m only going to list the things that are not obvious.

Spare Fuel pump.
Spare lift pump Filter
Spare fuse Kit
RTV
JB Weld
Mosquito repellant
Oil filter tool
Teflon Tape
Assorted hose clamps
Spare Relays
Butane soldering kit
Filter housing O-ring
Air line
Remote for Winch
Siphon hose

My intent is to only have to use the BOB for 3 days or less, and the items contained in it are what I consider bare minimum to keep me “comfortably alive” for that period.

Here’s my Bug Out Bag:

To aid in waterproofing things, Items that I use once I open them, I vacuum seal.
If it’s an Item I’ll access several times, it’s in a Ziploc bag.

From the top in the second pic, Left to Right:

Backpack with camelback (Water) integrated, Sleeping bag
45ACP, Toilet paper, Binoculars, FRS Radios, Parachute cord.
9 clips + 50 rounds, beanie, Gloves.
Sun Block, Insect repellant, Vaseline soaked cotton balls, gum in a Ziploc bag, salves ointments, etc. Ace Bandages, cotton socks, long sleeve T-shirt.
Wet ones wipes, 2 space blankets, wool socks, bandannas, underwear, long sleeve t-shirt.
Poncho, Vitamins, toiletries, Sardines.
First Aid kit in a Ziploc bag, sunglasses.

Items you may carry in a BOB may differ, depending on you, your geographical location, and what your intended use for the BOB may be.

Any thoughts?

Very COOL! I actually added a small 22 cal rifle to my items.:U:

wildcat 04-04-2009 03:19 PM

lol

I was actually thinking y'all would think I was a NUT for carrying so much stuff, maybe a few of you do... :humm:

Sometimes, having all this stuff comes in handy for other people, sometimes I need something, so I don't mind so much haulin' it around...

It's not like I don't have room for it or something.
lol

:U: Very nicely done. Most people don't have a clue when it comes to a Bug Out Bag. :U:

You are not alone. I carry almost the exact same items in my truck at all times.

I didn't see these items in your BOB.

Magnesium fire starter or wax dipped strike anywhere matches.

A small folding saw or coiled wire saw.

Water purification tablets or purification filter hand pump.

I use the vaseline cotton balls to help start fire, but I could also use a Mag fire starter...
so far, the lighters and matches haven't failed me... but then this is the desert...

Water purification tablets are there, in the 1st aid kit.

No saw yet... any suggestions?

Stihl with a 24" bar of course Bill!!!!! Seriously though, there are some nice fold up units in Cabelas. Just drive over there (it's by the jiffy pop stadium)

I had problems with the cotton/vaseline balls being able to light damp wood or in rain conditions. The magnesium lighter was hot enough to ignite damp wood sitting in a puddle.

I have two saws:
BCB Commando Wire Saw with nylon wrist straps. 7 or 8 bucks at the Surplus Store.
Gerber Exchange A Blade folding saw. Has one Wood blade and one Bone blade. About 20 bucks at Cabelas or Gander Mt.

+1 for the saw... I keep a couple in my truck (044 Stihl and 020T for the job), but they can come in real handy if you get stuck somewhere and need to scavenge wood. I also have a tacticool hatchet in my truck, but its done its share of wood chopping. Surviving without a fire is tough, even if you just use it to pass the time it can save your life.

Bill you're a knucklehead are you going on a road trip or preparing for the nuclear Holocaust? i have a few tools and a fuel filter but not an extra fuel pump or nothin crazy like i'm seein here Bill, it's awesome don't get me wrong but i think i'd like to know what kinda road trip are we talking about?

wildcat 04-08-2009 10:47 AM

lol

ANY kind of road trip where you don't want to be sitting on the side of the road, waiting for a tow truck, Ty.

That is... If there is a Tow Truck AVAILABLE...

You need electrical wire, baling wire, and diagonal cutters, and wire strippers.

Seriously, how can you have have a tool kit without diagonal cutters and wire strippers?

For the bailing wire, see the second pic, under the tire plug kit...

The needle nose I have will cut and strip wire... although not ideal, they will do in a pinch.
Honestly, I guess I overlooked that, every other vehicle kit I have has wire strippers and wire in them... glad you caught that for me.

Begle1 04-28-2009 12:33 PM

You also need some bolt cutters or a hacksaw.
