Metric Tire Tech.....

i figured is throw this together for the guys here.......ill list some of the "typical" truck sizes then tell you how to compare them to other size metric tires and also convert them to inches.....

STOCK DUALLY
215/85/16 = 30.4x8.50
225/85/16 = 31.1x9.00
235/85/16 = 31.7x9.30

STOCK
245/70/16 = 29.5x9.50
245/75/16 = 30.5x9.50

33' AND BELOW AFTERMARKET
255/70/16 = 30x10.00
255/85/16 = 33x10.00
265/70/16 = 30.5x10.50
265/75/16 = 31.5x10.4

33" AND ABOVE AFTERMARKET
265/80/16 = 33x10.50
285/75/16 = 33x11.00
295/75/16 = 33.5x11.50
305/70/16 = 33x12.00
305/75/16 = 34x12.00
315/70/16 = 33.5x12.50
315/75/16 = 34.5x12.50

i know you guys with 17's and up are going to want to scream but just hold on a second, ill tell you how to convert your metric tire to inches with a few simple formulas.......

here is your math......

1 inch is equal to 25.4 millimeters, this is always the constant.....

take your first number (lets say 265) and divide it by 10 to get 26.5.....

take your second number (lets say 75) and divide it by 10 to get 7.5......

now multiply them together and you get your sidewall height in millimeters.....198.75

remember 265 is your tread width so we know that already....

NOW YOU CAN USE THIS NUMBER TO COMPARE OTHER METRIC TIRES TO OR FROM HERE YOU CAN CONVERT IT TO INCHES......

divide 265 by 25.4 and you get 10.4 inches, this is your tread width.....

now divide 198.75 by 25.4 and you will get 7.82.....

now double 7.84 and you get 15.68.....

now add in the size of your rim (16) and the 15.68 and you get 31.68 inches.....

and if you scroll back up you will see how close this comes to being perfect......the measurement given at the top is 31.5.......

the reason they did not come out perfect is due to rounding......

all of the tire measurements listed above were taken from the same source.... 4LO.COM :: On-Line Gear/Tire Size Calculators

when you do nothing for 12 hours a day your mind starts drifting......i got every single small miniature detail picked out for my truck project.....from the lift, to the tires, to the lights, the sound system, EVERYTHING, and today i put this guide together in my head cause i am running wide tires in the front and dually's in the rear and wanted to know which metrics measured the same or where close so i could use them as road tires......and the 38.5 swamper boggers as the show tires....
